944S2 - Alarm issues

Hello everyone,

I've been looking online for a while now and I'm struggling to find an exact match on my issue. Either I'm searching the wrong things (most likely) or I have a very unique issue.

When unlocking my car from the drivers side (RHD) and attempting to start the car, the alarm goes off and there is no engine turn over. When unlocking the car from the passenger side, the car starts fine.

Regardless of which side I unlock/lock, both doors will act as they should and unlock/lock accordingly.

Any ideas what the issue could be? I can't seem to find a wiring diagram that shows what parts are used in the alarm circuit so I'm struggling to find out what does what, and what the fault could be.

Would really appreciate the help!

Cheers,
Daniel

Is it the factory alarm or aftermarket? If its aftermarket there is likely little we can do to help.

If its factory:

You can grab the wiring diagrams and FSM here:

Do NOT, do NOT use the Clark's bypass procedure on any S2 later than '89.

You will fry your wiring harness if you do...

Thanks for responding. It's a factory fitted alarm and I have no intention of bypassing it. I would like to get this working correctly as it adds to the restoration however if that doesn't work out I'll remove the entire thing and replace it with an aftermarket solution.

I'll take a look at the manual. I'm sure it's a straight forward fix, just need to find a starting point to diagnose the issue.

Thanks again

I have uploaded the wiring diagram for a 1990 944S2 to my google drive... I will keep it there for one week, then remove it...

I have a 1987 Porsche 944 and the headlights will not go down, the sunroof electronics will not work, the security system does not work, the wipers will not work and the radio does not work. I thought this may be similar to the problem with the security system not working properly. Any help would be appreciated!

Start by pulling out the wiring diagrams, a test light or voltmeter, and do a proper diagnosis. I would start with the easiest one and work from there. I would guess that you have several different problems, not just one.

After keying open the lock, try pulling up on the lock pin and making sure the lock fully opens.
Also try cycling the locks via the console before starting.

3rd, check the door switch in the jamb.

I had a problem like this in my 1990 S2 Cab, but the issue was that I could unlock and open the driver's door without disabling the alarm if I was not careful. Some sort of issue with the microswitch in the latch. Unlocking from the other side disabled the alarm.

I probably just cleaned the latch with electrical cleaner sprayed everywhere and maybe followed up with a light spray lube as I recall the problem was easy to resolve but not a memorable repair.

Best to start your own thread as this sounds like your car got very wet or something and has a bunch of wiring connections that need to be cleaned or repaired.
