Fuel Pump Question?

Sorry I haven’t been on this board in awhile, lost my 924. I kinda miss it, anyway my question is this.

My fuel pump should come on for a couple of seconds when I turn the key to the on position then shut off. My pump is not coming on until the engine is running; it takes about twenty cranks to get the engine to catch.

What turns the pump on during that couple of seconds before cranking, how do I track the problem? THANKS! Mike

in the 944 the speed sensor near the flywheel senses the engine turning and sends a signal to the dme/fuel pump relay which powers the fuel pump

but you didn't say what year/model/make you're asking about
