Sailshell Transaxels
Hey All
Anybody know about how much it would cost to rebuild one of these. I am thinking new gears and bearings throughout. Where is the best place for parts on these, and or does anyone have one for sale? I have been thinking of replacing this with a transaxel out of a 944 but would need the torque tube, shifter, and transaxel. I could do it but would loose the OZ16 shift patern that I like. |

This transaxle is VERY expensive to rebuild if it needs more than syncros and bearings. Which one do you have? 924NA or 924 turbo? I have a 924 NA in good condition that only needs syncros. It is dissassembled but complete. If you're interested I'd want $250 plus shipping. I also like the shift pattern. I have one from a 924 turbo in my 944. I also have everything you need to convert to a 944 transaxle.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 924T (931) and I thought it would be expensive to rebuild. This is why I am thinking of a change over to the 944 axel. What kind of rpices are we looking at for the change over?

I have a 1983 944 transaxle, torque tube, shift rod, and shift lever. I want $600 plus shipping. To install this, you need to drop the rear suspension (the only way to get the 944 torque tube in) then while it is out you need to cut off the extensions that support the turbo transaxle off just behind the inner trailing arm mount (or replace the torsion bar tube, I have one of those too for $50). The torque tube will slip into the bellhousing in place of the turbo unit. Then install the tranaxle and bolt the mounts to the existing holes in the small crossmember. Then reinstall the torsion bar tube assy. Basically assembly is the same as putting the same parts into a 924 N/A or '81-'82 924 turbo ot early 944.
