ever parted out a 944?
has anyone ever parted out a 944?
did you make or lose money versus selling the whole car straight out? im need parts and im thinking of buying a wreck with fewer miles and selling the ones i don't need. it seems like ebay is a pretty good distribution channel... |

Mein Gott!

I never have, but should have once!
Last June I was involved in a serious accident in my old '84 944. This warped the entire tub (and looked like Superman came in and tore the Fuchs wheels in half) and the insurance company considered it a total loss as it would have cost over $3000 over its book value to repair. But there was a wealth of great parts perfectly intact. In retrospect, I should have kept the wreck, but I couldn't stand the thought of tearing down "my baby" or turning the back yard into Billy Bob's used parts flea market for storage! |

have you kept track of your costs? including shipping, etc... im trying to figure out if its worth the time, and if you break even or if you make money.
do you use ebay? how else do you sell parts how much time does it take to sell one item? i have room in my garage for 3 cars and could unscrew parts and pack them up there. |

Not worth the time unless you have a post 87 or a 951 IMO. You'll be able to sell the hard to find parts (good dash, seats, tranny), but the everyday items are pretty much worthless.

its not nessesarly worthless. ive sold lots of 944 parts on ebay most for good money some i broke even. it all depends on the market and who is looking for what and how much is he willing to pay.

do a search on ebay for "944" and look how many random parts are going for a lot more money than you would expect.
