Electrical Gremlins, FAQ? Walk-thru?

Does anyone have a FAQ or Walk-thru helper guide on tracking down all of our ground problems/locations?

So far, I've fixed the main battery ground, wire read 4.6ohms, now reads 0.0ohms. Engine ground is good(0.0-0.1 between intake and battery neg), the ground between the tail lights and the battery negative is 0.1ohms(or less, I used my cheapy Fluke 73, and some jumper cables to 'extend' the negative terminal of the battery).

I started this fix when my Oil pressure gauge started reading only 2 bar cold, 1 bar at highway speeds, and dipped almost to 0 at idle. Now I'm reading between 4-5 bar cold at idle. But I'd like to find the cause of it's 'bounciness' between the 4 and 5 mark(ECM ground?). I also have an issue that when I turn on my parking lights, the fuel gauge and temp gauge stop functioning, also when I turn on the turn signals, the 'fasten seatbelts' light comes on.

Last but not least, I'd also like the location of the main lighting relay, my lights will come on even with the ignition switch is off. Faulty relay, if it is equiped with one.

And yes, I know, I need the set of repair manuals but money is tight right now..... And I figured someone else has been through all this before

That's a good start. There is a cluster of grounds under the fuse/relay block toward the drivers door.

If your head lights come on without the key being on then something or some one had farted with the wiring. You should get just the parking lights coming on.

Also you will get one side of the parking light on if you leave the turn signal arm off center and turn the keys off. It's a German law to have clearence lights on when parking on some streets.

Some owners have changed the way the fog/driving lights come on so as to have the headlights down and just the running lights on.

Electrical troubles could also be from an after market radio intallation.

Or a bad ignition switch or turn signal headlight dimming cluster on the steering stalk.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Darn, I thought that was a gremlin.... That's why I figured there was a faulty relay. I've left the turn signals on a couple of times accidently(due to a 'botched' Grant steering wheel install).

Just checked, headlights don't power up with ignition off. I just hoped it was a relay issue with the turn signal stalk(guess I should read the owner's manual, huh? )

If you have an original owners manual I would love Jpeg scans of the pages so as to put them together in a PDF "book". Have to be at 600 dpi.

To other 944 owners: Would love scans of their owners manuals too.

I also have an issue that when I turn on my parking lights, the fuel gauge and temp gauge stop functioning, also when I turn on the turn signals, the 'fasten seatbelts' light comes on.

Some people would pay good money for features like those. Adds character.

But I bet most would pay even better money to have the 'fix' for it

I've got to go get my A/C serviced today, but with 3 days off next week I might get lucky and be able to post a fix for it
