Flexfan makes a 9"(or maybe it's the 10) that is the same thickness, with motor, for less than $90. It seems to be much more efficient than the stock one.
As for the question...most electric motors are rebuildable but finding a shop(alternator shops are a good start) that will do it and do it for less than new is another question entirely.

I don't have the bad one out but wonder if it's a split case or a sealed unit.
If split I can probably do it myself unless parts for it are unique.

The best "fix" for the fans on a 944 is to replace the front bearing with a sealed unit before they fail.
Water and dirt still gets into the front bearing besides being behind the hub on the fan and causes the bearing to bind and sieze up. When this happens the armature and comutator burns out. I've just found one of my spares where I've replaced the bearing and have intentions of making a step by step with illustrations. It's not too hard really as you drill out four rivits that hold the front bearing cup in and swap out the bearings. I used some very small hardware (hut and bolt) to replace the rivits along with some thread locking goop. So far the two fans I've done this too have lasted three to four times longer than the first one I replaced.

The cooling fan hasn't seize up yet, just major squealing.
Thanks, what I needed to hear.

If anyone has a cooling fan or two that haven't seized up, let me know what you want for them.
