924turbo 08-12-2003 09:06 AM

Check out 924board.org and 924.org for more info. This forum is a poor resource if you want good information about a 924 turbo.

SoCal Driver 08-12-2003 11:26 AM

"Good information" doesn't have anything to do with his rudness.

But if you want his crass comments then you can have them!

It's not like some of us haven't owned 924's too. I had two.

P.S. The four 924 workshop manuals are now PDF'd. Has the 80 through 82 electricals.

teabagger 08-12-2003 04:40 PM

Thanks fore help, I'll go ahead and steer clear of that car then. BTW I was not insulting everyone I was more asking, "is everyone on this forum like the guy who told a moderator because my location said "in your mom" " seriously now that person could've just asked me to change it. maybe I did handle that a bit out of hand but it just angers me when grown men run and tell like little children. Seeing how I want to continue to post on here I apologize to everyone who got offended by what i said except of course the baby that reported "in your mom"
All in all from what I've read I think you guys are saying to just stay clear of 924's all together?

And grow up. That's right, the youngest kid on the board is telling him to grow up!
Actually, I am. Don't steal my thunder! :-P

And yea teabag, stay away from Porsche all together..These cars suck.

I'm buying a Honda. See you guys at the track;)

Pology accepted TB.

You would probably be better off with a 944 honestly, and if you are willing to do the work you could find one at a similar price. Just remember, a neglected Porsche really needs alot of time, money and attention(not unlike a neglected girlfriend). If your not looking for a project/hobby, look to pay at least 5-6k to start.

no, teabag, you shouldn't steer clear of 924s all together. THey are wonderful cars... it's just that a 924 with known engine problems is most likely only gonna lead to more problems. And as you can probably guesss, buying a Porsche cheap and then dumping money into restoring it often costs much more than just buying a one in good condition in the first place.

But if you really like the 924 body, I would recommend the 924S... it is the 924 shell with the 2.5 liter 944 engine and tranny.

hey guys i have a 78 924 with a bad motor and i was thinking of puting a 944 motor in it does anyone know if it will fit or not

CJFusco 08-16-2003 11:05 PM

i think it will... you might need to change a few things, tho...

Britwrench 08-16-2003 11:30 PM

No, a 944 engine won't go into a 924. There are way too many things to change, the most difficult being converting the 924 pedal assembly for the 944 hydraulic clutch system. Don't even think of wasting your time and money. 924 models are not worth anything (unless they are in real good condition) so it's pointless putting any money into it.

drew1 08-17-2003 07:45 AM

parts wante,

Like britwrench says, it would be a lot of work. When you go to changing & reengineering stuff , lots of times looks kind ogf butchered up, &it can reduce reliability. Read teabagger's 924t into 944 thread for idea about work involved. 924t has hyd clutch that will fit torque tube & for a 78 924 na, you'll need to do something about getting your stuff to fit a 944 motor.

One thing I think it might be a good swap for is may a PCA GT class race car. You can just do what wiring you need to race, get a Tilton or Wilwood pedal assembly, fab mounts needed, etc.

The car only cost me $150 and all it really needs is a head other than that there is nothing wrong with it so i think i have some room to work with before i cant get my money back

Pike 08-18-2003 04:28 PM

What happened to the head? Are you sure that is the only problem?

924 parts wante 08-18-2003 04:47 PM

ya i drove it home but it had a blown head gasket when i took it in i found out it was worped bad the gides and seats are shot to it would take about $500 wholeseal to fix it so i was going to replase the whole motor if i can find a good one thats why i was thinking about the 944 motor i found one i can get cheep out of a wrecked one

Britwrench 08-19-2003 08:39 AM

Even if you bought a junkyard 944 engine, you then would (MUST) have to change the timing and balance shaft belts water pump, tensioners, alternator belt, distributor cap, rotor arm, front seals and rear main seal, possibly the clutch, cam box gasket and other stuff..which would cost more than fixing your 924 engine....

924 parts wante 08-19-2003 08:22 PM

If it wont fit it wont fit thats fine but the only diffrence i can see between the 2 is the 924 is a 2 liter and the 944 is a 3 liter there both slant 4s but i really dont care i just want a running motor in mine if i could find a 924 motor in as good of shape as i have been finding the 944 motors and around the same price ($150 -$250) i wouldnt even have been concedering it

CJFusco 08-19-2003 09:30 PM

944NA is a 2.5 liter, except for 1989, when they enlarged the displacement to 2.7 for only one model year. The 944S2 and the 968 had a 3.0 liter engine.

924 parts wante 08-20-2003 07:36 AM

I new it was bigger than mine just thought it was 3 anyway i still need a 924 motor if someone knows where a good one is the only thing is i cant spend to much my other car is barely running and parts for it are more then these
