Big problem?

Ok, i have found something out. The suspension is perfectly fine, i jacked it up and took a look at it today, check the wheels for play and stuff. It turns out that its a bigger problem...

When i drive the car, it seems like the engine wants to quit and it like bounces back on and back off. When i accelerate the thing seems like it dies before it fires back up and moved. And when i put it in reverse, the engine actually stalled for a second before it came back on and started reversing, and the entire time i was in reverse the car was bouncing back and forth like the engine was dying

any ideas? could it be a cylinder is misfiring, or could it be that the rotor and ignition wires (being as old as they are) are not giving one of the cylinders a spark?

This is an automatic?

ldl 10-01-2003 05:09 PM

Ideas....

If it's an automatic.. Could be the Damper Plate, or otherwise known as a "Flex Disc"... When this gets bad, the whole car actually shakes (vibrates) down the road while driving... (A give-away is when the car is running, it makes a clanking noise).

Above Cost:
- Part= Roughly $1000 (Dealer), or Roughly $700 (Online)

If not... Then could be motor mounts. maybe.. Not sure.

Well good luck bro.
hopefully it doesn't cost you a lot to fix.
Bye.

Check motor mounts & trans mount

scheistermeiste 10-01-2003 06:29 PM

no offense or anything but you wanted to slap a turbo on this car before fixing all these things???

You may want to try pulling your spark plugs and see if they are okay. Also try checking the spark to each one! What does your cap and rotor look like? What kind of condition is your air filter in? Do you have a new or old fuel filter? This is all easy stuff to check, and looking is free! If these parts need replacing, I would try a complete tune-up first! If you still have the same problem, then freak out! ;)

Um yeah, the air filter had what looked like spider webs in it, and grass, and its almost completly grey instead of the orginal yellow color, and i look it out and dust went everywhere. I dont know where exactly the fuel filter is... but im sure that needs to be replaced. The cap is um red and i dont know what the rotor looks like either.

We did put new spark plugs in though, i just dont know if each cylinder is getting a spark.

Like i said, im just a kid here. Any help is great

btw... should i go and like take a picture of the engine and let you guys look at it?

No, take the car to a shop and let them look at it..a picture won't do.
It sounds liek the fuel system needs help; change the filter and put some Chevron Techron in the tank. The injectors may be sticking.
Your car needs professional help.

Rock, where are you located? Maybe someone here can look at his car and help him out??
