The master cylinders WILL interchange on the early cars! The only difference that I noticed, was the pedal feel. The ATE seems more firm, the Girling is a little mushy comparatively speaking.
I now have a Girling master cylinder on an ATE booster, so I know it works. |

Keep an eye on the fluid level just to be safe.
