UPDATE: ATE & Girling

The master cylinders WILL interchange on the early cars! The only difference that I noticed, was the pedal feel. The ATE seems more firm, the Girling is a little mushy comparatively speaking.

I now have a Girling master cylinder on an ATE booster, so I know it works.

Keep an eye on the fluid level just to be safe.

PS: You could be leaking a bit of fluid, or vacuum, but everything sounds good, as the later model cars had 'mushier' brakes anyhow.
