No banana? Sheesh, I figure the info is worth a banana!!

Just a hunch on the "cold startup" system, no matter what type of sensor is sending the info to the computer, I figured it might be similar.

When they're set right, my 944 n/a will hit immediately, while the S2 always seems to need a bit more cranking, and I guess that's normal. Looking forward to the final diagnosis on this one, as it is probably a common ailment that others need to know about.

cheers

P

Hello... Im at a dead stop again here..... Using the info at www.clarks-garage.com/ I went ahead and started checking the speed & ref sensors and then proceeded to try & find an 0.8mm washer to set the clearance to. 3 different hardware stores close to me do not have such a small size. They all looked at me like I was crazy for needing an exact size so small. Anyone have an idea where to get that size I need? Im thinking of cutting up my feeler guage to get the size closest to that. There was a bunch of gunk/metal shavings? on the ends of both the sensors when they came out if that means anything.

Whats the best way to check if the AFM is properly working? Is the method in the Haynes correct? And please think about where can get 0.8 mm washer to set the sensor clearance. THANKS

shoot me an e-mail. i have a sensor with a space super-glued to it. i also think i know what is causing your cold start problem. i had a similar issue with our 944 a while back.

That is a 1/32" thick washer. can be any diameter up to the diameter of the sensor.

You can check the temperature sensors with an Ohm meter. The sensors are NTC or Negative Temperature Coefficient devices, which means the resistance of the device is inversely proportional the its temperature. A cold sensor will have a high resistance, and a warm sensor will have a low resistance. If memory serves F.R. Wilk has the sensor specs on his site.

Im still trying to get the time & means to get the sensors checked and in the process I will also check out the temp sensor. It may be a week or so, but when all this happens I will be sure to update everyone. I have a feeling Ill be asking more questions.

I think you better check again, here's a place where you can buy a Thermo Time Switch for the 944, and the 911, and for the 928, and............
