I have a 1984 - 944, with the porsche five spoke wheels that were typically seen on the 911's. I think they are referred to as fush type, but I am not sure. The fronts are 7 x15 with 215/60 tires. The rears are 8x15 with 215/60 tires. My question is can anyone tell be how large (width) a tire I can mount on the 8x15 wheels on the rear without causing a problem, such as the tires rumbing an interior body part or suspension frame, etc. I am guessing a 235/50 but I am not sure.
Thank you Paul |

225/50R15 will fit your car, but you will have a little speedo error. Check out www.tirerack.com for different tire options. I don't thing your going to find a 235/50 tire, or even a 245/45R15 tire for your car. You can fit up to a 245 tire with an eight inch rim, however there are few high performance tire options nowadays for 15 inch rims.

I hope this will be useful:
Just found out today a nail took quite a liking to the rear tire of 84 944 NA. It's a good time to change my 4 tires anyway ![]() I am currently running a 215/60R15 front and rear set-up (= 129" sidewall height). The current tires make the car stand too high for my liking. I am changing to 225/50R15 ( = 112.5" sidewall height) front and rear. I considered the Kumhos ECSTA 711 ($51) or Yokohama AVS ES100 ($77). I eventually chose the Kumhos from Tirerack.com: 225/50HR-15 Kumho ECSTA 711 $51.00 each Tire road hazard program $6.12 each Shipping $60 Total: $296.30 (Tire installation, balance and disposal not included. Another $100 approximate) |

Aren't H rated tires only good for 130mph? I though V rated were the lowest rated tire to put on.

i personally would go for the 225/60s... i like that fat sidewall. gives the car that "vintage racecar" look (think 1960s ferraris)

yessir, i have the 215/60s now, but i am getting close to needing new wheels. Since the '44 is getting "limited use" in the winter (see new sig), I figure it will be time for new tires in the spring. I am definitely getting 225/60/15s, with V-rated or higher.
