Fuchs value?
Hey guys
I have a set of those Fuchs black thingys on my 944. They look almost brand new, except with a little scuff on the back passenger side rim. Other than that, the chrome is all shiny and stuff and i cant find a flaw on them. How much do you think these things are worth? Are they worth more than the car?

The Fuchs that seem to be worth the most are the matched set off of a 930 I believe. 16x8's and 16x9's, but even those aren't worth as much as the whole car, unless they were in perfect brand new condition and you happened to find the perfect bottomless checkbook buyer. Most of the Fuchs you see for sale go for prices anywhere between $300 for the set up to $2000+ for a set depending on condition and size.
The only ones I've seen that seem to be worth even more are the widenned ones, which wouldn't fit on the 944 anyways without some fiberglass wide fenders.

If they are the 7 & 8 x 15's that are pretty common on 944's, I recently sold a set for $600.

I bought a rough set of 16x7"s from Oklahoma Foreign for $400. After considerable labor stripping and polishing, I wouldn't sell them for less than $1500.

 As you can see they are a little dirty and wet I think that stripped chrome above looks sweet! How much did that cost?

The Fuchs above are polished, not chrome. I refinished/polished them myself. I think companies like Wheel Enhancement will polish your wheels or exchange your set for polished set for around $1K, if I remember correctly.

Sourced that header panel on eBay. IIRC, a lister here or on Rennlist had some 931 panels for sale a while back. You might want to search the classifieds or archives.

Macfreak007, first take a look at some of the articles on the subject:
http://www.drivewerks.com/tech/techarticles_main.htm I'll be glad to advise, if needed. It's not a particularly easy job but I think it's rewarding. Basically I stripped the paint, removed anodizing with oven cleaner (EasyOff!), smoothed the surface with 400, 600, 1000, then 1500 grit sandpaper and then polished and buffed to a jewel finish. After the wheels, you can do the caps and lugnuts. (most difficult part of the job... you might want to purchase these already done). I polish the wheels with Mothers every few months at the same time I wax the car. Why don't you take pic's while you do yours and publish a tutorial?

I might just do that, there are some out there but none totally complete, i have tried the oven cleaner to remove the anodonizationa dn it doesn't seem to work, how exactly did that step work for you? and what kind of oven cleaner did you use?

The trick on removing anodizing is to apply the EasyOff to the stripped wheel, let it work and bubble for a few minutes but don't let it dry. Then use steel wool and work on removing the anodizing. Rinse and Repeat as often as necessary. As you know, the stuff is very caustic but you'll want to remove as much anodizing by chemical means as possible. After the coat of anodizing is removed, the rest is relatively easy.
