I, like many of the 944 na owners, I have a 1987 8 valve, am interested in what I can do to make my car faster. From what I can see, supercharging makes the most sense, the problem is as follows: rimmer doesn't make their kits anymore, and supercharging of knoxvill only makes centrifugal kits. I have been in contact with Mark Robinson, he works at www.f-a-s-tonline.com They fabricate supercharging kits for 928's that makes them sickly fast.
Anyway, here is my point: They are giving some consideration to making a supercharger kit for the 944's using a twin screw/roots style design, which seems to be the best. If any of you are interested, you can contact mark at mark-jra@austin.rr.com the other thing is, they would need a 944 to fabricate the kit on, then they could reproduce that kit and ship it out to other 944 owners. They are located in austin texas, so if anyone lives near there and is interested in this, maybe you could be "the one" Thanks for your interest. Brendan. |

Sure would be sweet if the test car gets the conversion for free.

Mark is going to give me a price range probably some time later today. And Diablo, if you live near there, contact him, maybe he would give you a discount for being "the one".

I think only the big boys give'm away. but any who, i was working on my own. would be cool to see what they come up with.
e I just checked the site. at the bottom of the main page, he's talking $1995 for a kit. if he can make that the price point, i'm in. ------------------ 84-9445m Porsche, "Overtly Masculine Feel". [This message has been edited by EGSMachine (edited 08-14-2001).] |

that kit involves all the mounting and custom stuff only. You still have to buy the supercharger itself from vortech along with some plumbing. The advantage to this is you buy the supercharger, so you can search around for a good price as opposed to f-a-s-tonline having to buy them and mark them up. It also allows you to purchase the kit in "stages" so you don't have to save up and purchase it all at once.
I will post the price that he gives me whenever I get it. Also, they kit for those 928's is pretty sweet, have any of you guys checked out those videos? Their kit makes the 928's push about 400 rear wheel hp, that is insane!!! [This message has been edited by daly944 (edited 08-14-2001).] |

...that sounds great.....
Thanks for doing the leg work..... Buying in stages...thats a great idea.... Will watch this....and email him as well..to let him know of interest...... I would suggest anyone interested should email him.......that way he can gauge the extent of demand for such a beast......it may allow him to price it lower if they could sell a number of kits.. Thanks Again....!! ------------------ ![]() 86' 944 79' 924 (R.I.P) |

ok guys, here is the latest from Mark Robinson at f-a-s-tonline.com
Get a tally of intersted parties, names are not important right now. If we develop a kit, it will most likely be a full kit, complete bolt-on, weekend-job (may be a day), over 3k, under 4k most likely. The 928 kits are pricy becuase we have to update the fans & the plumbing's expensive (not so on the 944). If we can get out without a custom pulley, it'll be pretty reasonable in all respects. You're still looking at 26-2800 for just materials, less brackets, air intake, ingenuity, tuning, oil supply & return, etc. The blower alone is 1700. But, if interst warrants, we'll do it. I'm psyched and if they decide to make it, I'll definently be in within the next month or two, fundage is a little depleted after my manual tranny conversion. |

Hell, I'd be interested...don't have a 944 yet, but it sounds like a great idea and I'd love for it to be available when I can find a good one...would this work for the S2 as well?

I haven't asked him about an s2 kit cause there probably wouldn't be nearly as large a market for one. Huntley Racings is nearing development of their s2 kit, and they do some respectable work. The main reason I'm talking to the people at f-a-s-tonline.com is that I don't like the idea of using a centrifugal supercharger, like supercharging of knoxville's kit, if I'm gonna spend that much money, I want the best supercharging kit with some low end kick ass grunt
READ THIS EARLY 944 OWNERS: I am in discussion with them about how to adapt this kit to your cars, cause I know that supercharging of knoxville's kit won't work on your cars, and there are probably more of you out there than us "late modelers" I will definently keep you posted cause I know that your cars are somewhat harder to upgrade, i.e. you can't chip it, and I know that you would probably some of the biggest sales band. |

I would be interested also, but there is no hurry for me since I won't be able to afford it for at least two years.

TOTAL SKEPTIC here!!! I have no faith that there will be a 944 SC kit in decent production run.
Reality check: 1)NA cars can't handle lots of PSI so kits will be limited to probably less than 8psi. 2)$3-4k is a lot of money for a low psi, low output kit that YOU have to install. Sell it, get a 951. 3)Everyone gets caught up on this "chipping" thing, there are other methods! If a 944 NA kit was the way to go and the market was all hot and bothered over it, Vortech, Paxton, Powerdyne, Whipple, Eaton, etc... would have made kits available direct, years ago. another reason is because any sensible person would take that 3-4k, sell their 944, buy a 951 and have a much better car! there is just not much demand for something the factory already did.especially if the factory version can be had cheaply. it is feasible with the 911 as a turbo version will run you $20k more than a n/a version.

TEXATL: just out of pure curiosity, do you have a 944, and if so, what model/year?
As for the compression thing, yeah we couldn't run huge boost, but we could still run signifigant boost, and always lower the compression later and up the boost. And nothing pisses me off more than the old "sell it and buy a turbo" response. My car is in perfect running condition, low miles, 28k to be exact, not a single dent, brand new manual tranny, 2k dollar security/stereo system, and all kinds of other ****. I wanted to talk to the other 944na owners to see if they would be interested in making their cars faster. I know that some of you may say that upgrading a 944na is futile, well I have this to say to you: First of all, na insurance is a ****load cheaper for a 16 year old male, I want my car to be a sleeper, and a car with as much if not more hp than the 944 turbo, no turbo lag, and lighter would be a force to be reconned with. I'm not looking to start a big argument, I'm just justifying why we na owners do these things to our cars. Some of you need to lighten up on the na owners, especially those with auto's. I used to be one of them. This may suprise you, but some of us just prefer a fun good looking car that can handle well and is a lot of fun to drive. I'm not looking for flames, and I'm not gonna argue with anyone who wants to argue, I'm just sticking up for my fellow na buddies. |

Daly944 I have a 1984 944 NA, 80k, Ruby Red Metallic, gold fuchs and an f'ed up odometer.
![]() I love the car, and would love an SC for it... But dude, reality has got to kick in. Do we all need a lesson on "Return On Investment". BTW (and totally OT) Stray15, love the wheels. They turned out GREAT! Awesome! Rich [This message has been edited by Texatl (edited 08-14-2001).] |

I dont know about you guys and where you see these amazing adds for these 951s. But up here i dont see cheep ones. I bought my 944 NA that was in VERY good condition, new exhaust...headers...brakes....belts..pump and all. Nothing needed to be done cept the coolant needed to be bleeded and i just got a new battery. I got this for $5000 i seriously doubt i can get a 951 in this condition for $10. Atleast i have not seen any around here.

TEXATL:
I don't really care about investment returns, I'm a dumb young kid who loves to spend all his time and money on his 1987 944na 8valve, and I plan on driving it until it won't run, then i'll get out and push it. |

Dude, Daly I'm telling yeah forget the Supercharger and spend that money on suspension, you could make that 87 kick ass at the autocross. Much more bang for your buck, more speed fun then you could ever imagine at 30MPH, just ask 1.2g's. I've been there, done that - its awesome.
And I understand your point, feel free to search my posts, I have repeatedly been beating the drum for sensible supercharging, but I don't buy into this SC at any price. If someone can do it right and reasonable then I'm all for it. But I won't spend 70% to 100% of my cars value on 40-50 HP. Ain't gonna happen! Rich |

I do plan to spend money on suspension too, like I said, I'm a dumb kid spending my life savings on my car. I worked this whole summer so I could blow all my money on my car, and that is exactly what I plan to do. After supercharger comes brakes/suspension, and aluminum interior.
