81 944 gtp

http://www.porschedecals.com/944gtp.htm

you guys are acting like smart asses and you guys dont even know what a 81 944 gtp is.

SoCal Driver 12-26-2003 01:40 PM

You are right that I didn't know all the minutia of the GTP because I don't drive and fix a GTP.

But we know what it and the other variants of the 924 are. These were very limited production race cars and not production models.

The 944 was stuck on the GTP as a marketing tool for the next 924 design in the series -- the 944. Even though it used a proto type 944 engine it is not a 944 in any other way.

The turbo engine has thicker cylinder walls but the same bore and stroke as the NA. The compression has been reduced with dished pistons. It does not have sleeves.

The 2.7 engine has a bigger bore. 4mm larger than the a 2.5 NA. It does not have sleeves.

Just putting the 2.7 pistons in an 2.5 block will require you to bore the engine. Tends to get the walls a bit thin and they crack.

The 3.0 uses a longer crank stroke and the larger bore. Again the engine is cast just for these bores. There are no sleeves.

We get your questions about turboing an NA all the time just like Rennlist. I dare say it is unusual to get "don't bother telling me "just buy a 944 turbo its easier and cheaper"" as part of the question. But it does set the tone of the replies.

all right i finally got the answer i was looking for from some who knows what he's talking about, SoCAl driver. im new and there are alot of people who try to sound smater than they are, so dont call me stupid i know what im talking about.

Trevor 12-26-2003 02:53 PM

New kid, know your place. The best advice I can give you is to not call other people stupid when you have multiple spelling errors in the same sentence.

Britwrench 12-26-2003 03:06 PM

The similarity between the '81 GTP and the 944 engine is roughly the same as the old BMW turbo F1 engine and the 320 4-cylinder that the block orginated from. The GTP engine is a race engine, pure and simple and was an engineering exercise for Porsche to use in development of the 944. All engine devlopment goes on for several years before the product is launched so 944 engines were in prototypes for a while before the official sales launch.

One line in an internet page does not the whole story make.

On other thing, it's a good idea to punctuate paragraphs so that they make sense. Oh yes, and watch the spelling too.

I didn't call anybody stupid, and yes my english isn't very good sorry if offended anybody. i have a link on the first post that proves that a 81 944 gtp does exist.

Britwrench 12-26-2003 03:15 PM

There's probably a like that proves the Earth is flat, too.
You need to research the whole story first and then comment rather than post and prove you absolutely fit your signature line.

Alright take cheap shots at the new kid, you guys really shut me up. i was just trying to prove it for those who didnt know it existed and were saying i saw it in my imagination.

Britwrench 12-26-2003 03:39 PM

not a problem juice but as you can tell we have all done this for a while and so if you post again do the research check your facts and your contribution will be more than welcome and use some punctuation.

I think we can all agree that I like pie.

Britwrench 12-26-2003 03:56 PM

SoCal Driver 12-26-2003 04:01 PM

Potatoe Pie!

Where's the gravy?

Britwrench 12-26-2003 04:13 PM

We did, but not with the warranty....

todwic 12-26-2003 04:21 PM

should've gotten the extended warranty, and the rustproofing.

SoCal Driver 12-26-2003 04:23 PM

I didn't and my windshield oscillator quit last night.

ds475 12-26-2003 04:31 PM

I believed you about the GTP... I saw it in a Porsche book. In fact, i don't think anyone said that it DIDN'T exist...

Sabyre 12-26-2003 04:42 PM

LMAO... Did the 81 944 GTP also feature socks??
