This is as frustrating as getting a new Furby and not having any batteries, it just sort of sits there looking stupid.

PB Blaster is better than WD-40 as a creeping oil to lubricate corroded fasteners. My favorite is AeroKroil.

IMO, it's the best I've found. I save the blue wrench as a very last resort. I haven't had a bolt yet that could stand up to a 1/2" breaker bar and a 2' section of pipe. I have broken sockets and extensions though.

off of that website:

"...Penetrates to 1
millionth inch spaces, dissolves rust, lubricates, cleans and prevents rust.
Displaces moisture."

that seems like the shti i want. but if i can't find it at the hardware store i'm just gonna go with PB or ZAP.

what's a "blue" wrench?

blue wrench is when you get a wrench all excited to bust a nut loose and then you suddenly stop cause you still have 'issues' with your ex.

sorry, couldnt resist

ds475 01-20-2004 12:28 AM

if that's not the meaning of "blue wrench" then it should be! lol

is that really what it is, or are you being sarcastic? (hard to tell on the internet, sometimes...)

MrPants 01-20-2004 12:44 AM

yea just messin around. i have no idea what the blue wrench that he was talking about is

SidVicious 01-20-2004 06:04 AM

Around the motor pool in the Army we used to call a torch a blue wrench. Some admin types would get their panties in a wad if they heard we were going to torch something, but they never understood that a reference to a blue wrench meant the same thing.

Sili Kroil is made by the same people who make AeroKroil (kanolaboratories). I don't know if it is the exact same blend or not.

is PB Catalyst better than WD-40 at rust bustin'?

Do you mean the lowest bolt on the Macpherson strut?

Stop toying with it like a big girls blouse and get yourself a nut splitter, destroy the nut and smack the bolt out with a decent weight hammer and drift.

ds475 01-20-2004 01:04 PM

Dark,
the nut isn't the problem, it's the bolt. i already put a sledge to the bolt and it didn't budge, then i tried twisting it to break it loose (with over 3' of leverage) and STILL no budge.

Melts skin too.

Just curious - would it melt plastic? Specifically those plastic lemon-shaped Jif bottles they use for squirting lemon juice on yer pancakes. Currently I keep one filled with household ammonia in the car in case of encounters with nutters on some desolate dark road. The thought of melting someone's face off sounds far more effective than simply disabling them.

Hmm. Okay then. How about grinding the end of the bolt flat with the strut, centre dotting it and drilling down the centre (small pilot initially) and progressively opening it out with larger drill bits and then applying a lot of torque so that it collapses in on itself?

ds475 01-20-2004 01:19 PM

drilling out the bolt is a last resort. i haven't had time to try PB or ZAP yet, but i may end up doing that.

And their court action against you much larger.

Yes the plastic would handle the muratic acid. Used for treating swimming pools. Buy it by the gallon.

You're right! Best finish them off with the Stoplock - just to be sure. :)

Well ... okay ... but when that screaming pain starts to race across your groin you be sure to stop levering on that bar. Otherwise your hernia's gonna pop out like a bull frog's throat in mating season.

ds475 02-05-2004 11:54 PM

ok. i managed to get my passenger side shock on without removing the strut from the car. i finally said f*** it, and was like, i'm just going to try putting it in without removing that mother f***ing bolt. i'm doing the driver's side tomorrow... i tested the bolts on that side, and they'll come out with ease... i can't believe it.

Frank B 02-06-2004 08:04 PM

Hey there ds475,
Way to show those Mother F***ing bolts who's the F***ing boss. I like your f***ing tenacity, good job. Hey if I need advice on shocks I think I know who I'm gonna f***ing ask, why the f*ck not right? F***in' "A" man, you f***ing rule!!

Oh god, bad memories. I broke my humerous in half in an arm wrestling competition at school. 3 months in a cast. It was really interesting moving your shoulder from side to side and seeing your arm stay in the same position. :-\

ds475 02-07-2004 12:39 AM

that's f***in' humerous.
