New parts evaluation
29.4mm Weltmeister Torsion Bar (28mm effective) $338
220 lb/in Front Springs $105 each 28mm Weltmeister Front Sway Bar $380 22mm Weltmeister Rear Sway Bar $290 I am looking at buying these part to stiffen up my 924S. Are these good parts to upgrade to or is there better stuff? Dropping $1220 on suspension parts is pretty high and I want to make sure I get good stuff. Also are these prices reasonable? I have not been able to find cheaper places. Thanks! Last edited by shocker1322; 02-07-2004 at 06:04 AM.. |

Way too high! IMHO I avoid Weltmeister!
29 t bar and 220 springs may produce steering problems. You need the t bar to match the front spring rate. My T bar cost 269.00. 360.00 for the fr sway M030 968, 150.00 rr adj sway 968, Hypercoils 400# 62.00 The package you listed is bogus and again it is "Junkmeister" Sman

Ok, so where can I buy what you listed? I have tried to look for a 968 M030 package, but seems no one sells them. The Torsion bar and spring rate I got from an Excellence article about how to set up 944 suspension. They did not say it would cause steering problems. Obviously a 30mm torsion with 160 lb/in would. But 28/220 seemed reasonable in their article. Who makes your Torsion bars? They are solid right? Thanks for you input.

Welts are ok for performance upgrade on street applications but do not provide the needs for racing for the money spent. So if one can swing the 968 bars they can be purchased at any dealer. Paragon Products also have them. 944racing is where I got almost all my suspension and he is down as of late. Every thing on my car is available at Paragon.
I am trying desperately to recall the name of my Torsion bars, red in color and went for around 260-280.00. 29mm Solid......I want to say "Say Away" Powerbarz but they are white. Can't locate my receipt on the bars but have an idea it is out at the shop in my chest. I will be out there tomorrow and post the info then. In regards to steering problems...I was just generalizing to bring it to your attention that the rates up front need to "equal" the rear. That is part of the balance of the car. I read 29mm but see I missed the real working diameter but you are going from 21 to 23mm bars to 28.5mm is a large increase in rear stiffness, even stiffer with a sway bar. 220 up front is not a stiff rate, very mild in fact. Even 400# isn't that stiff. When I was upgrading I got my set up from Nort Northam in Fla. who is a big 944 racer and has all the goods on race set ups. He gave me exactly what I needed for my use...racing. Therefore the set up I have is the one he suggested. Now that is not to say it is the best set up available but the only one for me and stay legal. But it is next to the best set up going without getting into the 3000.00 range and up.ie charlie arms, spherical bushings, race dampers. That would be the next and only step up for me. Sman

PS......Yes I went solid. Can't lose too much weight and really need the weight over the axle. If I wanted hollow I would just remove them and replace with coil overs. Sman

968 M030 Sway Bars (944 Cup 30mm Front Sway Bar Kit )$299.00
968 M030 Sway Bars (944 Cup 19mm Rear Sway Bar Kit) $149.00 924,944,968 Torsion Bars (924, 944, 968 Sway-A-Way Solid Torsion Bar Set - 28mm) $266.00 968 M030 Sway Bars (477.511.051A, Factory Drop Link, Priced per each, 2 req.) $260.44 (for 4) How are these? They did not have the springs there, but I think I will stick with 220. I need the drop links right, and are factory good ones? |

Good! My Torsion bars are Sway Away Powerbarz2
All good but the drop links! Go to KLA industries to get the drop links cost of 65.00 vs. 260.00 and they are good. I think if you call Jason at Paragon he can get springs from Hypercoil. Hypercoils run around 64.00 a set. I think you are good to go! Sman

Are you doing anything with the shocks? We recently did a 968 with Koni adjustables front and rear with M030 front and rear sway bars.
With a good alignment car is excellent for mostly street and some track work. The ride was supple for the street and customer reported at the track he felt confident.
