Help help! I am trying to bring my 924S 1980 2.0L into Calif and they want to see the body VIN stamp. We have the one in the window, but where the heck is this car stamped with the VIN? We tore the back out (at my expense) but no body VIN. You folks out there who have dissassembled this body, PLEASE can you tell me where this @#$ number appears on this car? Thanks!

Not 110% sure on the 924. But my stamp is right below the top firewall line in front of the battery.

Scott is correct (at least theres one there on my 944). Also, I think the VIN and this number are slightly different. The prefix is anyway.....I think the one on the firewall is a chassis no......not a VIN......I think thats correct.......or maybe I have no clue....anyone?

cops have a big book from the mfgs that tell where to find the vin stamps. It's part of any good police departments auto theft recovery program. If your local cops do not have a book, then you must be way out in the sticks

They don't even look at your car in New Mexico. I could register any car as long as I had the paperwork. For all they know, I don't have any working lights and there is 90 degrees of play in the steering.

I agree with Javier. The DMV did the same thing to me in Washington with my '79 Trans Am. But they didn't have to dismantle my car to do it. If the DMV in your area don't know where to look, then it up to them to find out where to look and then get back to you, not to pull your car apart piece by piece like Barney Fife looking for his only bullet.
