6 1/2 quarts.......really?!
going to do my own oil for the first time.......it takes that much oil......6 1/2 quarts?! Anything odd I should be wary of? Going to use 10w 40, in PA weather, short trips. What brand.......usually use Castrol.

yeah, it's something like that. I remember thinking "where is it going to put all that?". Beware the stupid position of the oil filter. It faces DOWN.

When you remove the oil filter, if you can't find the metal filter-taker-offer that goes straight onto the end, you can use one of the hard plastic ones from NAPA, but I had to mod the tool by cutting a strip of leather out of a baseball glove and putting it between the filter and the tool so it could keep a grip on it.
and don't forget to pick up a new oil plug seal ($0.25) (http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_oilsys_pg1.htm). get a Mahle filter also. While you're ordering parts, a new air filter wouldn't hurt.

It's actually 5.7 qts. That's with the oil filter change.

Mine took a little over 5 quarts with the last oil and filter change. So that 5.7 sounds about right in my experince.

Use stock parts (filters, crush rings - they're reasonably inexpensive), and synthetic oil. Trust me, the benefits of synthetic are well documented.
It's a piece-of-cake job on these cars; the worst part is just getting the car in the air.
