Question Radio and wiring question

Sounds like its time for me to replace my rear 4 X 6 speakers. Im going to install a plate and install 6.5s in place for them. These car speakers are wired weird....the front right and rear right connected and the same for the left. If i install 6.5s in the rear i dont think only one channel will be sufficiant for both the front and the rear speakers on each side. If i unplug the speaker wire from the rear speakers would the power that they are draining be used by the fronts so I could then run some fresh wires from my rear channel to my new speakers.

Yes, assuming you have a four-channel head unit and you are only using two of those channels to run all four speakers.

I"m about to add some more speakers to have 6 channels (4 front, 2 rear) and the headunit should handle that. If not, I may get a crossover amp and then just run the sub with the preamp out. You should be fine with your wiring unless you go blasting music constantly.

You have a 6-channel headunit? I've never heard of a six channel headunit. Hell, most surround sound units (for cars or home) only have 5. What headunit are you using?

The way the 944 is wired one channel runs 4 speakers so he will add 2 more speakers and have 6. I already have a 12 inch sub in my car and no Its not rattling my car as I have my amp turned down low for mostly rock musics. It sounds really good I just want to add the 6.5s or 6X9s for mids.

Would there be room for 6X9s where the rear 4X6s are?

The way the STOCK car is wired there are only TWO channels. In base 944's there's two speakers on each channel. In teh 10 speaker cars there's 5 on each channel...but there's ONLY TWO CHANNELS. (may be differnt on later models but it's like this in mine. Pre-86 cars may be a single channel as there's only 3 speakers in the car (I think))...

Speakers are NOT channels. "They're components", or (duh) "speakers". The number of channels is dependant on the headunit and means of recording, NOT the number of speakers. As precise as a 4-channel recording is, I can't even see the need in a 6-channel headunit.

Theres not any room that they give you, but with a Saw there is pleanty of room. In the 87+ i believe they added a piece that if you removed, gave room for a 6.5 but IIRC there is pleanty enough room to insert 6x9s if you cut out a few inches of metal.

I want to add the 6x9s and then replace my 4x6s in the front with another pair because i hate the stock system.
