position sensor

On the set screw that triggers the position sensor -
Does anyone know the specification for how far it should protrude from the flywheel?

(Early 85 944. But I think the engine is older than an 85.)

Background: I heard about an old service bulletin that says to replace the position sensor stud on certain older engines, as it doesn't trigger the sensor reliably. I'm convinced this is the cause of my no-start, strange spark woes. I finally got the stupid bellhousing off, and forgot to measure the protrusion before I grabbed the screw with vice grips and promptly broke it off. Grrrrr...
