Handling question

Guys, what alignment variables affect "tramlining?" I've done bearings, racks, tie rods, ball joints. The car will follow every little rut in the road and won't run straight and true unless the pavement is perfect. I'd been told that caster affects this "hunting". True? If so, what caster settings should I use?

Your front wheels could also be towed out. If your car is towed out then your car would follow any grove in the road. Try towing the wheels in to make the car more drivable on the street.

Yeah, thought of that and had the toe set to '83 specs. No change. I have got Turbo spec wheels and tires, though. Should I go with turbo spec alignments?

Caster and camber. Worn tires. Loose/worn tie rod ends.

Bad a-arm main bushings.

Are the "U" joints on the steering shaft worn?My 944s2 wandered and tramlined quite badly until i replaced the shaft. You could actually feel movement in the joints when you grabbed it.Still tramlines a bit but some of that is down to having large tyres (or so i'm told).

Control arm bushings are good, but I think 944cabby may be on to something. I've got a steering column available to me - maybe I'll swap the steering coupler and see what that does.

Thanks, guys!

Wider tires will increase tramlining noticably. Your alignment specs are for narrower tires.
