New 944/project addition to the family

Well, after having my last 944 ripped away from me in an accident while my brother was driving, I have finally (well actually about 3 weeks ago) added a new 944 to the parking lot in front of my house. I traded it for an engine from azndrgn. It's actually a rolling chassis with nothing but the minimal body damage that all cars tend to have. Interior is pretty trashed, and it has no engine.

I'm thinking I'm going to have it painted, i just tend not to be a fan of red, and I already have a red car. So I'm thinking I'm going to go with black, or some shade of blue, haven't decided yet. And then there is of course the turbo front end and everything that i will add before it gets painted.

I do have an n/a motor that im going to do the T-belt and everything on and probably put it in, but thats not the final plan.

The Ultimate plans for this bad boy: Turbo Conversion.

Yes I know you guys will say that its not worth it, yes I know Porsche already did this, yes I know that it will be alot of work, yes I plan on doing it right. No I'm not going to just buy a turbo, yadda yadda yadda. I've done alot of research on the subject, and I'm going into this looking for a project. I'm not just going to throw a stock turbo motor in there and call it a day, I'm also going to upgrade the engine, bigger turbo, exhaust, complete suspension etc so I'll end up buying a bunch of newer parts, rather than shopping the forums for old used/stock parts. If I have it my way, I'll find a wrecked/totaled turbo and pick a few of the parts I will need off of it.

I'm not going to go as far as to make it a complete track car, but It should haul some serious ass, and be able to take a corner like its on rails.

I plan on redoing the entire interior hopefully In suede, but that will be some $$$ so I may just stick to black vinyl.

My estimate is that everything will be completed in a few years, gotta get funds together, and then there is actually pieceing together the car, so what will probably happen, is

the paint -> n/a motor -> turbo junker -> after market parts -> install.

Anyway enough of me talking here are a few pics.

Good luck on the project! Projects are a great way to keep you outta trouble

That car looks like a perfect track/autox/de candidate.

I read your list of things to do.......... Have you even decided to estimate how much it will cost in the end?

my initial estimate was ~10k, but that dosent count alot of things (and i mean alot), so its really not even worth pinning my self down to a number, if i go over ill just be pissed and upset.

It'll get done when its done, and it will cost whever it costs to make it work right. Im planning right now on painting it my self, so unless i do a bad job (which since i have no experiance, and black is the hardest color to get right) and have to get it professionally painted, i'll save a good bit of money right there. Other than that, im truely not worried about cost, i can go buy a turbo for 6-7K, and then spend the same on upgrades and crap, or i can go this route, spend the same, if not a little more, and have exactly what I want, and learn alot in the process.

as for being a perfect track/autox/de canididate, it is, but i would rather have it be an awesome functioning street car, that can goto autox and show up a few guys, im not to big into track built cars, be it autox or stright 1/4, i like to see what you can do while keeping it on the street.

If i get a junker turbo, i can pull things like the motor, wiring harness, engine mounts, any body parts that survived, trans, torque tube... ect. You can see where im going. I dont mind having to buy say, a turbo front end, as long as the car got a decent engine for me to do a little build up of, and as long as the trans is still good. Thats where im going to come out on top, considering a decent turbo motor goes for like 3k, and a trans about the same (from what i gather) so if i can get a junked turbo for like 3k, im already up 3k+. Either way, the motor is gettnig torn apart, and rebuilt, with a good set of rods and pistons.

I've already got a trans am, i dont need another LT-1 car. That thing gets some danm horrid gas mileage. on top of that, i've got a facination with boost, never having owned a boosted car before, so i wanna give it a shot.

No No No, keep it old school. Keep the Cookie Cutters, old style dash, regular na bumpers. Keep it nice and clean and put in the 951 power plant.

Think Sleeper! I think It would be really cool.

Hey, have you thought about using a different turbo powerplant? I know someone who was going to try a talon/eclipse 2.0L in a 944 but I am sure there would be one out there that could make this thing a real sleeper. Some of those japanese 4cl turbos can put out a lot of power for the $.
I say euro bumpers or 924 carrera front end. I like the old school idea.

oh the interior will remain the same as a early 944, ill just re upholster it, thats all. Other than that, the ever so clean look of the 951 is just to appealing for me to pass up.

Only other turbo powerplant i would try to use would be the 1.8t of the VW, fabrication is not my forte and that will get much more expensive, much quicker, so its not even worth the hastle. (for me that is)

Well fair chares for all, I like the old interior aspect off 944 or 951 keep it clean and beauty. The same thing, Jap engine ( are reall y good I love Toyota, I also have a Land Cruiser very realiable cars ) in a Porsche ... in my case never.

Porsche engine in a Porsche car .. in my opinion better that I can do, 968 engine with turbo in a 944
