O2 sensor
 

My car is running a little rich. I know this because of my caked plugs. I just ordered a FRWilks Chip. I am hoping that this helps out a lot, BUT i was wondering if I should replace the $150.00 O2 sensor. I am eventually going to a header back exhaust but should i buy this o2 sensor from pelican just to be sure that mine isnt bad? I will see what happends with the chip install.... but i have a feeling that this alone will not solve the problem.

You need to fix the running fault before doing any modifications. If the pugs are caked then fix that.

You can buy a bosch sensor from any local parts stores......

How do I lean it out... i will check the factory manual, but does anyone know the steps?

I'd check o2 sensor first. it has 3 wires, one will be 12v power one will be a ground and one should give you about .5v with car running. the .5 should fluctuate(?) from about .3 to .7 if it's good. Check these with volt ohm gauge. better if you have a digitail with graph to watch volts. if it's not moving (voltage ) o2 probably bad

Firstly, you don't just "lean it out" Motronic systems rarely go out of adjustment so you diagnose and then repair. Find the fault fix it, that easy!! Disconnect the 02 sensor if you want to check it...the engine will run slightly rich, but not rich enough to cake the plugs.

Bearing in mind the number of times we've seen dead 02 sensors, and that haven't worked for more than a while, I wouldn't class it as the #1 cause of problems..only to pass emission tests do you (usually) need to work.
If the engine has a vacuum leak the voltage reading will be wrong too..lots of possibilities...
