16 valve fuel pressure????

I am stumped . My poor S stumbles while idle and has no power. I did a fuel pressure test and found I was only getting 35psi at the rail, idle. So I go down the list, filter, pressure reg., fuel pump, all new now. But psi the same. What gives??? Could I have gotten a wrong part somewhere or am I missing something?

You could check all the flexible lines for kinks. The only other thing I can think of is that it might be the fuel pump strainer in the fuel tank. Maybe? It's worth a look. Clark's Garage has the procedure written up.

If it were me, I'd also triple-check all the part numbers on the items I replaced.

Since your pressure regulator runs according to vacuum, you might want to check the vacuum level, too. Usually the problem with these cars is too little vacuum, though, making the mixture too rich, as I understand it. But you never know, and it's easy enough to check.

By the way, I've got the same running problems with my car, but I've ruled out fuel supply issues. If you fix the fuel pressure trouble and still have problems, check out the DME temp sensor. Someone else on the list found that it was causing these sorts of problems. I'm not sure how to test it on the "S," but it's a $30 part, so I'm just going to try replacing mine. Good luck.

FPR for the 'S' is different than for the 8V

Hmmm...35psi is about right for the 8V, isn't it?

krahm - you can check the NTCII temp sensor between pins 45 and 24 on the DME connector (following FSM):
0°C = 4.4~6.8Kohm
15~30°C = 1.4~3.6K
40°C = 1.0~1.3K
80°C = 250~390ohm
100°C = 160~210ohm

Yeah, it's fairly cheap, but it's under the intake manifold, right?

Yep got the wrong FPR. Right there on the side is stamped 2.5bar when it needs to be 3.8. AAGGGG

Once I fixed the fuel leak at the back of the car-----all my problems disappeared----fuel pump mount was broken, pressure line was leaking, all the lines were looking rough, replaced all with high pressure rubber hose-- Done!!!!!!!!
