how many volts...?
how many volts do you have going to your rear defroster? on my '83, there was a little more than 9 volts on either side...
I'm asking because it takes a helluva long time to even defog the rear windows, let alone defrost them... i'm talking >20 mins here...

I don't know if early 944s are any different, but it should be +12V between the left side and the right side with the actual defroster in the window acting as a huge resistor. Try cleaning your grounds near the rear hatch.

A basic multimeter (will check your voltage, resistance, and current +more) can be obtained for <$20
