Where did you get your interior pieces? it looks great! My turbo needs some new interior... It's almost shameful -Alex |
Thanks, I'll check the sensor this weekend. Carpet and door panels from e-bay, Seats dash and console from www.germanautodismantlers.com. Some trim pieces and switches from Pelican Parts and 944online, Mechanical stuff also.
|
Yes, they have them. They are on the left side of the car right behind the engine. They will be directly above the flywheel. They come up to two connectors pretty close to the hot water valve of the motor.

If so you got very lucky! |
Yes they were, got lucky on the dash also, minimal warpping near the top vents, thanks

We'll No spark for sure, Going to check coil. Swapped DME relay, Cheack for fuel at the rail, Havent checked power to FI yet but I'll do that after I check coil (I bought a spark tester and checked uoutput, no spark at all). Found the speed and position sensor, they were connected, but seems both have the same connectors so you are able to conect one to the other, any way to tell which one is which?
|
Probably not the coil...they don't go bad real often. Do a search for a post by a guy called SoCal Driver and search for "five minute test" ...that will tell you step by step what to do to find the problem. If you think the wires are swapped, switch them and see if that makes a difference. I'll try looking in my book to see which is which as I don't remember off the top of my head. Anyone else know?

Thanks for the tips. Still no start. Have the Speed and reference sensor wired right (One of them was marked on both ends). Cant confirm the five minute test because 2 weeks ago I had the Speed and reference wires connected wrong (but didn't know it), I took the DME relay out and did the jump test from Clark's garage, the pump was working, I then set the DME aside and used one from an 83, different part# but it fit, still nothing. Fast forward to this weekend, Checked for fuel at the rail while cranking engine, Not scientific but it filled a gallon can pretty quick. Took another look at the Speed and reference sensor wires and noticed they were connected wrong, swapped them correctly, still no start. Although I swear I heard a moment where is seemed to fire, probably my imagination. Went looking for the original DME but couldn't find it. Am ordering a new one today. Hopefully there is enough difference between the 83 and 87 DME to make the difference, or that the 83 DME was bad. Keep the tips coming please. Maybe connected to this problem but probably not, while I was checking wires I noticed under the dash a connector that was wire tied to the rest of the wire loom. Is this for an accessory I don't have? Does anyone know what this might go to, maybe my easy button (fat chance).

Definitely a big difference between DME's. If you have the right one, that will make a difference...just not sure how much. That connector looks like it connects to a switch...maybe one on the console although I don't know which one. Check the switches on the console to see if one is not connected. Check the colors of the wires going to it and then look at the electrical diagrams on this site..maybe that will give you some indication.
The good part about the gas check is that you know that circuit in the DME relay is working which is also telling you the speed sensor should be working as I think that controls the DME relay to tell it the fuel pump should be pumping. Time to get back to tracing why you don't have spark. |
Yeah small steps right. Will be working on it again in 2 weeks.

Well put the new DME relay in, still no start. Good news, I trailered it back to PA from Maryland, so now my baby is minutes away. My buddy let me put it in his garage next to his Turbo. maybe they could talk at night. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1165320396.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1165320421.jpg
Just to recap: Doing a near ground up restoration, Bodywork complete, Interior back in. Every circuit works, except for door locks, and rear wiper (track them down later). Had someone remove engine and install rebuilt motor. He got to dropping motor in and then was not available to finish. I picked it up from there. Got all the wires and hoses connected. Here's what I know, Fuel pump works and flows when engine is cranking. I assume the speed sensor is working. What does the reference sensor do? Need to verify if getting spark, and power to injectors (new injectors). Will try this weekend. Step by Step check sequence would be apreciated. Any poster live near Springfield, Delaware County? |
