Engine compartment wiring/routing
Hello all,
I'm new to this board. I have a 1986 Non turbo 944. I am changing the color and having a rebuilt motor installed. My mechanic is awall. Its been several months since he has worked on it and I cant get him back on the project. I have the body and paint mostly done, but now I have to complete the motor swap my self. The motors in, but I'm having a hard time figuring the wire routing, some connectors, and most of the vacuum lines, Motor ground, etc.. Would anyone know where I could get a manual complete with pictures, or any suggestions? I live in PA, and my car is in Maryland, dont ask.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133072852.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133072887.jpg |
OUCH.....
Ok guys, post some photos for the man. I don't have a 44 anymore, so I can't. Do you have a copy of the workshop manual? AFJ |
Ouch.
Seeing as how it is taboo to post links to copyright material (as in the workshop manual), my advice would be to check your private messages. |
Thanks for the call out and help guys. I got some stuff to keep my busy for awhile.

Whats funny is mine looks like that right now...........
Having done this a few times now......... I am getting quite intimate with these cars.......... Things I see from your pic... 1. On the passenger side over by the light bucket... - The grounds on both sides bolt up to rail. I can see them dangling. (brown wires) - coil wires - 2 sets of wires for washer fluid motors (you have two little motors) - Plug for the pop up light mechanism - You should have a head light plug and a fog light plug and side marker and turn light 2. drivers side bucket - you have a ground by the rail as well (bunch of brown wires) - you have 2 wires for AC - you have plug for headlight and fog light and turn light and side markers 3. At the firewall you have the engine grounds but we are not there yet..... P.S You should of sprayed the booster BLACK while you had it out..... but otherwise its looking nice and shiny. |
Thanks Ae1969, #1 I have coverd as I removed them for paint. The A/C isnt hooked up yet, and I'll check the firewall grounds. Where does the Engine ground bolt to? The one coming from the battery?

Thanks, not going to paint fenders or hang bumper till I'm done hanging over them. BTW, I bought used nose to make it look tike a turbo.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133433940.jpg The car is not mine until I've taken it apart and put it back together. Changed the interior to all black as well. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133434353.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133434580.jpg

I like it.. especially in black! makes my turbo skin look shamefull....
|
Looking good........
You have 2 grounds from the battery......... - Behind the battery in the fire wall its an M8x35 - On the back of the bell housing it should be a M8 stud |
I'm still working on it. All electrcal connections have been made. A couple of vac and air lines to route. What is the proper firing order, and is there a fuel cut-off switch on these cars?
|
Nevermind on the firing order, I just had to open my Eyes.
|
I don't know of a fuel cutoff switch. The DME relay turns the fuel pump on ONLY after you start cranking the car. If the flywheel isn't turning, the fuel pump isn't pumping.
Do a search on here for vacuum line routing...it's been posted over and over. |
Where are you at in Pa.???. I have the factory workshop books, and several 944's sitting around. I am north of Pgh. I am sure I can be of some help, I have just swapped two motors in the last couple of months, and Most of it is still fresh in my mind
|
I'm just outside of Philladelphia. I have the Vac lines routed, and the electrial connections done. Checked the fuel pump and it works. Bypassed the DME relay heard pump, cranked but no start. Have to check the spark next. I was hoping there was an easy button, but no luck. I'ts been a long haul, and I deperately want to get it back on the road. I sure I'm overlooking something simple but I dont know what.

Heres where I'm at now, Have to track down why it wont start.

That was an incredble amount of work. One thing I have learned from this post...if you want to change colors...sell the one you have and buy one the right color. Do you have spark?
|
Ran out of time, haven't confirmed spark or not. Next chance to work on it is Oct 28th (car's in Maryland 170 miles away, long story). Mean time any thoughts would be appreciated. BTW, I drained tank and put fresh fuel when I checked the pump.

Hello gang, I need your prayers this weekend, Hope to get it started finally. One question I'm trying to rule out does the 86 non turbo have a speed and reference sensor? Been checking out some of the posts and it seems to be something I need to rule out, (if I have one). Dont remember seeing one.
