Not sure about Purolator. Wix filters are pretty good, stay away from Fram.

I buy oil filters here at Pelican about six at a time. That way shipping costs are minimized per filter.

I used Purolator back in the day when I thought Porsche had $25 oil filters.

Now that I found a dealer that sells filters with the crest for <$5, I get those. Purolators worked fine for me, though.

If you are changing oil every 3K, I think any proper fitting filter is fine.

There was a thread a while ago on the 911 forum about problems with Fram filters. Something about not having the pressure relief valve that Mahles and the other high-quality filters have. There was at least one engine that was ruined because of a Fram filter, and some other claims that Fram filters caused, or contributed to engine failures.

The thee filters i use reguarly are Bosch, Wix and Purolater. It depends on what the autoplace has on hand. I have never had problems with any of the three, both build oil pressure quickly after starting, so i guess thats a sign of the drainback valve working.

Purolator owns Mahle, Mahle makes filters for Porsche.

Purilator is fine.

Fram is bad.

Although these are filters for American cars, this is a good read
http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html

After reading this, I'd never use a Fram on anything.

I've heard that Fram filters for our cars don't have the drainback valve.

Purolators are good filters. Thats what I use on my '44
As far as Fram, ive been using them for 25 yrs, never had one problem with them. I run Frams on all my race motors, some that put out 80psi oil press. never one failure.

They seem fine.... that is what I use because I get them at a discount. It even has the drain back valve.

As AF said. They were made here in Des Moines by Purolator. I was out the other day and noticed the plant changed the name to Mahle. Then I see 2 days ago they moved, But yes Mahle and Purolator are one in the same now.

Everyone has a favorite brand and that is fine. However, claiming an engine failure due exclusively to an oil filter brand seems far fetched to me. That is like claiming a cavity was caused by using a different brand of toothbrush.
