Anti-Bordom Project : Fuel Rail, Intake Manifold, and Autometer Gauges

ok so i got bored... brought the intake manifold and fuel rail home from the autoshop at my school, polished them both up a bit, they came out really well. i really like how it looks now compared to the old, worn down, dirty look.

also i was roaming though the local auto-part store waiting for the line to grow down a bit, decided to get some gauges.

i got a volt meter and air/fuel ratio gauge, they are auto meter pro comp ultra-lights (light weight i guess, although a gauge wouldnt weigh much anyways) plan on putting them in when i get some sort of mounting solution which ill be thinking up of soon, i was thinking near the factory gauges somehow, dont want to have to look in every direction to see whats goin on.

well anyways here are some pics of the polishing.

and if you didnt notice, i decided not to do the throttle body, got a little tired of doin it. maybe i will down the road.

total time for polishing of both was probably just under 4 hours.
1st sand down using 80 grit, 2nd with 180. i didnt want a high polish, just a more machined look.

Take the throttle body off and replace the o-ring. Also the o-ring on the idle speed setting screw.

Also if you can replace the o-rings on the throttle plate shafts....

Did the same with mine when I had them apart. Used Tremclad clear coat on all the parts except anything that got realy hot (valve cover) and the belt cover. Should have done the belt cover. After a summer it looks almost as bad as it did originally but all the clear coated parts still look marvelous. It gave the intake manifold a sort of grayish colour. Almost like it was enamal coated and no pealing.

does it have to be a specific clear coat? and is this just your typical auto part store thing? i cant think if ive ever seen clear coat there..

anyways.. im gonna order the throttle body o-ring tomorrow.

Cool came out good, Keep up the good work, You might wanna think about mounting the in a A piller pod mount

Is there Tremclad paint products in the States? I've also used clear coates used on brass products sucsesfully. Just seals the surface from corosive materials. If you put it on to thich, it tends to orange peal. 2-3 light coats.

I dont know man, for some the A pillar gauges work, but they seem a little racer to me, where else can they go?

There is always the option of replacing the cubby below the stereo if the A pillar is to 'racer'

i would def. chose this route but the early 944's dont have the cubby space. im thinking 2 universal swivel mounts and put them sorta behind the steering wheel on the sides of the dash where it kind of protrudes out.

I can picture that, and it sounds like a good idea.

perfect spot - drill out a hole and mount them in the center speaker at the top of the dash... that thing is useless anyway.
