Air intake cone
Has anyone got a close-up picture of a fitted air pod/cone on a 944?
I can't buy a kit in Oz so I'm making one. Filter itself is easy to get.

Sure I can supply you with lots of pics - but why? The generic units available are junk - they dont make a good transition from round to square - the AFM opening is square most cone filters are round - best bet is to use a piece that makes the transition.
You really want something that makes a good transition - sort of necking it down. Here are some various units for ideas of what is bad and what is good.

Thanks heaps, just what I was hoping to see. I'm definately going to funnel the adaptor.
I'm at work at the moment. You wouldn't have the measurement of the hole centres for the mounting screws would you?

I can certainly get you the measurements, I will take one of the ones we have and get the measurements and post a diagram.
Also you may want to shield the filter from engine heat - so be sure to fabricate a shield. If you need anything from over here - let me know will do my best to get it for you.

I thought the same thing - heck I have some I could send.
But maybe he doesnt like the high cost of shipping and you know all the ebay ones are cheap to buy but they charge you 20+ to ship in the US, imagine what they would charge him - it would be ugly, then import tax. I prefer to make my own as well - more fun. Not cheaper, but certainly more fun. Most of what I do has a nice taper from the Filter mouth (round) to the AFM (square). In the end I find I would rather pitch the AFM all together and go with a MAF and cold air intake pipe with secondary air resevoir. I also like dual plenum manifolds - but I am a nut when it comes to re-engineering the car and tweaking it to my taste. I really like the AUDI style - Rally Dual Plenum - that is what I build when I am building something custom - equalize the air flow - beautiful setup - with a MAF or MAP - and preferably boost... In anycase Not one to install just a cone filter in the car - have to get cold air to it and shield it from heat soak. You want to gain performance not loose it and with cone filters that can be difficult. A heat Shield is very do -able and easy to fab., so is a cold air snorkle to feed the filter - or put filter an end of snorkle for the ram air/cold air setup.

Hi guys, thanks for your replys. Went to my local speedshop, and DOH, same place my son worked for 7 years, got a beaut intake adaptor, same one that fits Toyota Camry, our local GM Commodore etc etc, its plastic fabricated, and fitted perfectly, great smooth tunnel into the AFM, and cost about US$10. I couldn't make it for that.
I haven't taken any shots yet, but will. I also used the cold air intake tube from the inner front guard and directed that near the end of the cone. I fixed the cone straight onto the adaptor. I haven't made a heat sheild yet, but I don't race the little girl, just drive her for the FUN. Its been about 95 - 100F here for the last few days, and its running better than ever. (the new fuel filter and in-tank injector clean might have made a difference too) but I LOVE the "new" note it gives. I've had my 944 for less than a year, but jeeeez, they're a bloody addiction, agree? Thanks again.

Great - see simple an easy - and the toy units are great at having the transition.
I do agree very addictive... So is Boost.
