Steering shaft dilemma
I've just replaced the steering shaft on my 1983 944.
Annoyingly, during reassembly I must have got the alignment out by a spline or so because now, with the wheels straight ahead, my steering wheel is noticeably tilted left rather that level. However, with the key out the position that the steering lock kicks in isn't greatly affected - if anything it kicks in a degree earlier. My question is ... Would it be permissible to simply unbolt the steering wheel and correct the alignment that way rather than go through the hassle of jacking the car up, loosening the steering rack, and unbolting the upper shaft UV joint?

Cheers lads. I was hoping that was the case - although I couldn't think of a reason why it wouldn't be other than it wasn't quite how Porsche had it set up originally.

Done it more times than I can count
![]() Seriously though, on a non-airbag car you can just remove the wheel. On airbag cars you have to remove the plastic housing behind the wheel, and turn them both. I know yours doesn't have airbags, but that's an extra bit of information for the others
