Carpet questions
Are the early and late carpets the same for the most part. I have an early 85 that I am wanting to convert to black interior. I have complete doors and center console already. Is the rest of the carpet the same? If not will it work?
I also was looking at some posts on here about carpet kits and people keep talking about OEM carpet for $500. Where are you getting that cause Porsche here wants to ass rape me for all the carpet.

Never buy from Porsche directly, unless you absolutely have to. I had black on black in my 944S....It makes things in the interior hard to see, especially at night. It also makes the inside of the car feel small. I have Black on Off White now (upper dash trim is black, lower dash trim, seats, carpeting are Off White). I like it much better!

Well mine was brown and tan. Also I am doing some some custom stuff to the dash and it's a lot easier to match black.
Is there a big diff between the years carpeting?

I couldn't conceive of there being any difference. They didn't change the shape of the unibody that I know of.

Yeah. The onlt think I can think of is that the early have the carpt on the center console and diffrent on the door pockets. I have that. You see late carpet for sale on ebay and such more often. I just didn't wanna screw myself.

You can try here. Very good prices, not OEM though.

Yeah. I looked at that. I'll have to go some route if I can't find some OEM carpet. I'd prefer to maybe get some good shape used carpet form ebay or somewhere

The main differences between early and late carpet is that the late front is two pieces and there is the velcro section over the DME on the 944. They will interchange though but your best bet is to find nice used from a 924S.

i did the carpet in mine from stockinteriors, the carpet is fair however the "insulation they stick onto the carpet doesnt cover each piece, its just some thick insulation where the front seats go so from there i went out and bought some insulation from a performance store for 30 bucks for a big roll. I basically took all the old stuff out, cleaned up the unibody with some cleaner to get the stench out and soundproofed with some rubber undercoat. From there i put the i insulated the whole interior with just about 2 rolls (not sure on how big the rolls were) then put down the carpeting. It turned out pretty well. Took about 10 hours of work and it was well worth it.
If u do choose to get new carpeting be sure to lay out the carpet as soon as u get it...if u leave it in the box it WILL create some ungly bends where u really dont want em. I got one but it wasnt in a very important area because the floor mat went over the bend anways so, just a lil warning to whoever chooses to do this just so ur new carpeting comes out a lil more professional. If anyone has any questions to taking stuff off or what goes where let me know and il b sure to help.

There is a product R-Blox, like Dynamat, and i'm going to that from the firewall all the way back. I know it'll add a little bit of weight but I think it'll pay off when cruising and when I get my stereo put in.
How did you get those screws out that hold the latch for the rear seats. I need to find something that's a true X shape insted of a phillips. Where it's tapered toward the tip starts stripping out the in the screw. My back seats are going to remain out anyways but I need to get them off the change out to the black rear peice.

pkt i believe i used a very flat head screwdriver, i took an old crappy one and grinded it down to fit, doesnt take long to grind if u have the right tools...my dad owns a machine shop so thats where i did all of my work so it was a good place to be. If im thinking of the right screw ur talking about, a good phillips would do it but it would have to be a good quality phillips. just in case, try some wd 40 to help get rid of any rust or corrosion that might be holding the screws in.

I don't remember if I tried a flat blade. I'm pretty sure I used just about every phillips I have. I also used a **** ton of WD40 and tried tapping on it to loosen them. I have no idea WTF to do. I might see if I can find a flat blade.
