Rear wiper....remove or not?

Hi guys

I've looked at heaps of pictures of 944's and notice many have the rear wiper either removed or perhaps some were produced without one (which I doubt, but don't really know).

Although mine works, (well, everything works) I think they look better without it.

If its just a matter of taking it out and putting a rubber grommet in its place I think I'll do it. What do you think?

BTW, next sunny day, Spring has finally arrived here in Oz, I'll take some shots of my baby and show her off, with or maybe without the wiper!

Love this forum, its helped me so much with my "affair" with a 21 year old!!!

In this pic you can see the plug, I think 944online sells one, Im pretty sure mine is a factory part, it was done ages ago- I sure dont miss the rear wiper at all.

The rear wiper was an option I believe. Or not having on was an option. My 924S did not have one from the factory as did many 944's.

Sam I love your car... the lack of rear bumper pads is realyl nice, along with the 968 rear wing. Has the car been repainted? The paint looks amazing.

Is the splitter you have from AIR?

Thanks Schumi, it has been repainted in some parts - not totally

The splitter that is currently on the car is the GT-Racing splitter(fiberglass), I have had the AIR piece as well though. (few years back)

The rear wiper, in the US at least, was not standard and most of the 944 series in the US (at least, most that I've seen) were optioned without it.

It's option code 425, Rear Window Wiper.

I say remove it. Rain-X does a better job on the rear glass, IMO.

no matter how hard the rain, as long as i'm driving, water never collects on the rear window anyway...

My rear window is tinted so much (by the previous owner) that I rarely can use my rear view mirror. At nighttime, forget about it. Basically I guess the PO went to a tint shop and said give me the darkest legal tint. I really don't like it. If I were ever to get another car and tint the windows I would only do about half as dark as it is.

It does look really good though.

I dunno - I personally find the rear wiper pretty useful but it could have to do with the conditions here - lots of sea fog and mist.

For a car that's not so much a daily driver you're probably okay without it though.

Thanks man, appreciate it!

I dont drive it enough so it rarely sits in the sun, always covered - that helps alot. Other than that just yearly claybar, prep wax and P21S Carnauba wax. If you have never tried P21S buy some right now, its amazing!

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but I had hardly any response in the FS section.

I do have a rear wiper and I actually like the looks of it. i am just missing the little flip-up nut cover for the wiper arm mounting nut? It bothers the crap outta me that this shiny nut is exposed... Anybody have one leftover?
