New starter, same old problems.
I was given a new starter yesterday by the shop I took my old one to be serviced at.
I spent all morning fixing vacuum lines and an oil filler that wouldnt stop syphoning. I got a few good cranks out of the new starter and on the last crank, I release the button (push-button start) and the starter motor keeps spinning...and spinning....and spinning.... until I got fed up and disconnected the battery cables. The solenoid wasnt engaging, ie. its not cranking the flywheel or anything, but the starter just sits there spinning itself silly as soon as I try to reconnect the battery cables. Now, I know its a short somewhere...how it developed outta nowhere is the frustrating part lol all the starter circuit relays are mint, and all the wires look great from what I can see. Help?

The short can be inside the starter and not your car. Battery disconnected...I would pull the starter wires but make sure they don't touch anything. Hook the battery back up and check the small wire going to the solenoid for voltage. If there is voltage there, then the problem is the car...if not, then pull the starter back off and take it back to them or have it checked at the FLAPS. Blondie, the way it works is the battery supplies voltage to large post constantly. There are electrical contacts inside the solenoid that are engaged when the small wire receives power from the switch key. On the back side of the electrical contacts is a wire that runs inside the starter to supply it power. So either the small wire has voltage constantly or the contacts inside the solenoid are stuck together and supplying voltage to the starter without power to the small wire. The key is whether the small wire has voltage constantly or not.

alrite I'll give it a shot...
I tried desperately to make that 2pm safety I had scheduled lol I replaced literally all the vacuum lines and the rubber on the oil filler this morning hoping I could get the car going before 2. At 1:45pm, I go to start it up and....the starter wont turn off.

Could be the switch key or it could be the starter or also a number of other things but those are the first two suspects to me.

Good news (well, as good as it can be lol)
No voltage at the small wire...the push-button is wired in there fine and the switch (which i very recently replaced,) is also fine. You're probably rite on the money with the sticky solenoid. That place has been doin me all kinds of shotty work...(refer back to the pm I sent you.) This time around, I'm goin in there no holds-barred..this is getting rediculous.

Test it before you put it on the car. Put a positive jumper cable from battery to big post on starter. Hook your starter push button up. Then connect the negative jumper cable to the battery and then to the mounting tab of starter. If it spins, then still isn't fixed...if it spins only when you hit the starter push button, you are good to go.
