different tire ratio?
i have 215/60r15's on my '87. can i use a 215/55r15's? the sidewall is a little smaller so i guess the overall outside diameter would be smaller also, but would handling be better?

If you go to this web-site, you can do a comparison of your current tire size to any other size you choose:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Keep in mind, that if you lower the profile of your tire and do nothing else, the final diameter of your tire will be smaller and will therefore cause your speedometer will be off and read faster than actual. Another way that people will go to lower profile tires is to also step up in rim size. On the link, you can compare your 215/60/15's to 225/50/16's and the final diameter will be the same and so very little speedometer effect. To answer your original question: yes, the car will probably handle better. |

Not enough difference between the 60 series and 55 series to worry about. No problem.
