heater valve stuck open?

My heater vents always eminate heat weather the lever is on hot or cold. As I move the temp control lever towards cold, it skips and feels like it doesnt fully close the heater valve. I tried manually pushing the white lever on the valve its self closed- towards the passenger side- but it just torques the whole valve. Any ideas on what is happening here?
Thanks
-Gabe

Check the model of his car. A 924S (capital 'S' not lower case) has the early dash and thus the direct push/pull wires to the valve.

Best case is the clip that holds the sheath onto the lever arm bracket, has popped off. Worst case is the bracket ear that the clip fits over has broken off. Either way you need to remove a few things to get a look at the area.

Item 21 is the bracket.
Item 28 is the clip.
Item 27 is the cable.
Item 35 is the valve for the heater.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

The Reason the poster is always asked what model and year. Best to put this is your signature. If you have more than one (I'm jealous!) remark as to which one it is.

The cable actuators are not as easy to fix as the later vacuum operated fresh air heater box flaps and valves.
