e-codes (and other stuff)

if you're not running them, you're missing out..

i just went for my first night time drive after installing the e-codes, and DAMN.... it's completely unbelievable to me how much of a change in lighting you get... when people say the cutoff is so sharp, they're not kidding.. these things.. i came driving down the street, and i could see, clear as day, the horizontal cutoff... one instant was lit up like mad, and then slightly above that it was like i was driving without headlights..

simply amazing.
if you've been thinking about it but weren't sure - do it. i was in awe.

I also installed a dummy flashing LED right next to my lock in the driver's side door today, and as luck would have it the switch that came in the kit was an exact match for the holes near the ash tray in the early cars.. fit like it was made for it. had to get creative to find a constant +12V when the car was off in the center console area... turns out my antenna switch (not sure if all cars are like this) has got a +12V wire on it, so i just branched off of that... really convenient.

also cleared out my trunk today and re-installed my sub (took it out for storage space)...

and finally, after about a year I finally have a rear view mirror.. it broke off last year and I've just never got around to replacing it...

so, all in all a good day for little jobs....

no wiring upgrade needs to go with e-code headlights... only if you plan on using a higher wattage bulb does it matter.... and yes, I have had a harness built for me by Steve that i've been running in the car for a few months now.

i could do pics, but pics are very subjective.... I'll try anyway though.

I think the relay harness is a must not because it is required for electrical safety but because the factory wiring is so marginal that the headlight output is dangerously dim.

I've got one of the old "iceshark" setups on my car (probably pretty close to what you have) and it is fantastic. I was prompted to do the upgrade because at the time I was commuting a lot after dark on an unlit 2-lane; my max safe speed increased dramatically after the upgrade

I ran 80W "effective" bulbs in my stock harness for 2 years (not sure actual wattage) and was very happy with the light output..

...that is, until I got the new harness... and then got the ecodes.

I ran the H4 E-codes for several months before I got around to installing a relay harness. When I finally got the harness installed the difference was amazing (and I am using stock wattage bulbs).

Maybe it's not necessary to run a harness with stock wattage, but, when the bulbs are getting current directly from the battery, they are definately brighter.

I bought my harness from 944online.com and it took about an hour and a half to install.
