Thumbs up PICTURES! 944 drifting media

Welcome everybody!

There seems to be a high demand for drifting videos and pictures in my other thread, so I figured I'll just make a new thread about it.

This is where you guys get to tell me how bad a 944 sucks for drifting

so first off here is a video. It wont make much sense at first, but just wait for the in-car video. You will see my run, and then a Lincoln's run, and then another one of my runs which is better than the first. Enjoy.

now for some pictures...!

thanks - looks like fun - reminds me of when i was a kid - we used to do that a lot

i saw the car twitching and bouncing in the suspension - getting rid of the rubber bushings will help a lot - i'd also put in some really stiff rear springs and a big rear sway bar - that should help put the rear under a more controlled power oversteer with a lot less of the snap back - but, it will be a mess to drive anywhere else - looks like it was running out of power too - maybe smaller rear tires?

lincoln driver looked pretty good - nice control - not a lot of overcorrection

Dude sweet video and sweet pics, Its cool to see some one doing something different, Also its cool to see someone Drive their car HARD.

I say, Next mods should be a 4.11 gear set from powerhouse, It will help keep your RPM's up in the power band and keep those tires spinning, problem is a set goes for $800.

You also might wanna try to run a better cam.

Agian good stuff.

hahaha thank you for the comments guys.

the guy with the umbrella decided to duck tape it to his head because it was close to 100 degrees out!!!! The video was from about a month ago, in central Florida. ==HOT!

Glad to get some suggestions and compliments.

Getting rid of the soft rubber bushings would be nice but i've yet to come across anything other than oem.... any clues on where to find some?
Same goes with rear suspension parts. Right now the only thing ive done with the rear is adjust the trailing arms down and install Bilstien heavy duty shocks, but i would love to find a rear coilover kit or perhaps stiffer tortion bar springs, but i have not found any yet.
If you could point me in a direction to find some that would be great!!

Thanks! Now that this car is not my daily driver any more I feel like I dont have to hold back as much when Im out on the track.
The 4.11 gears would be really cool, I just cant afford them for a lonnng time.
Also, by cam do you mean camera or camshaft? lol

...because I need a new both.

Thanks Im glad you like them!
Search ebay for "VHT Nite Shades" ...its basically a transparent black spray paint that allows light to shine through nicely.

I could have made them a bit lighter and gotten more of a "smoked" look, but I decided to just make them totally black.

thanks again guys for the comments!

Lighten it up a few pounds by ditching the 86 for an early car. That might go backwards on the checkbook tho....

Neat idea but... i coudnt sell this car.

Its my first car and Ive had it for almost 4 years now, I got it for 1k from family, and its been real good to me ever since.

Besides the sentimental value, its been wrecked before I got it, and now has a "rebuilt title" so its not worth much anyways.

I lightened it up just a little by removing the rear seats, hatch mat, spare tire and tools, and replaced the stock seats with some Corbeau light weight racing seats. Its not much weight lost but still enough to feel a noticeable difference on the track.

Out of curiousity how much less do the early cars weigh than the later ones?

I beleive the early cars weigh a few hundred or so pounds lighter than the late cars.

If you have an electric sunroof you can switch it to a manual to take off a few more pounds.
Also do an A/C delete and power steering to manual rack as well which will save weight.
Other than that, you can go fiberglass bumpers, fenders, hood, etc... But those cost quite a bit, and dont always fit right.

You dont have a cone filter right off of the air flow meter do you?
Have you done any exhaust work?
You can get a chip that will help a little, the best chip that I know of is made by frwilk.com

I might do the A/C delete since it doesnt work anyways.

The power steering is essential for this type of drifting. I ran one event without power steering and it was hell. Fiberglass body panels would be nice but yeahhh i cant afford those either lol.

Cone filter yes, but I rigged up a cool air duct thing that works out nicely.. no plans to change it.

Exhaust is currently stock headers > cat delete > flowmaster muffler. A 2.5" pipe was custom fit from the headers back bypassing the cat. It definatly freed up some hp and sounds pretty loud.

Chip - currently I have an "ebay chip" which just alters the powerband or something. Its stupid and I have been wanting to replace it with the frwilk.com one for a while now.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions, they really are quite helpful, but if only i could afford more of these parts

I am hoping my next cash drop will be an LSD or at least welding a spare open diff... i really thing this would help me out more than anything in this game.

stuff for the 944 should be very easy to find - they probably have stuff here on this site - you can also try any of the outfitters (rs barn, paragon, ground control, etc)

drift a 944- Great job and a killer car! It's good to see someone using the '44 as it should be used. It's such a beautifully balanced car when sideways.

I installed this in my N/A and it made drifting significantly easier:

DVC, can you show some side of your car. I am thinking of buying some chromed D90's, but i dont know how they would look on a 944.

OHHHH MAN I CAN"T EVEN EXPRESS HOW MUCH FUN MY 924S IS TO DRIFT!!! I lucked out and got the factory lsd, and with turbo sway bars (25.5mm front and 18mm rear, up from 23mm/14mm) the balance of the car has completely changed allowing much more controlable oversteer than before.

I just run crappy 215/60/15 400 treadwear tires that break loose pretty easily and don't wear out to fast. I adjusted as much negative camber into the front wheels as possible- 1.75 degrees, which is just enough, and I havn't touched the rear at all.

As far as power goes, I have big plans for a built NA motor, but the stock power is great for now. FR Wilk has his chips on sale for $125 right now by the way...

A smaller steering wheel makes it incredibly easier to wrestle with, and keeps the wheel from hitting my knees. I need a bucket seat bad though.

I need to look further into the number 2 bearing issue where people have apparently spun the bearing by holding long corners at hi G's. I heard that the 88 motors came with an updated oil baffle in the pan that prevents this, but I'm not sure.

Anyhoo these cars are great fun to race and drift!
