console switch blank plates?

One more dumb question for today... how do you get the blank plates out of the console to insert a new switch? I am adding a rear wiper and can't figure out how to get the switch in. I'm sure it's one of those things that's easy once you've seen the underside of the console, but I don't feel like going that far

Can you tell, today is the official "catch up with car projects" day?

Yes they come out from the back - I carefully squeezed the arm/clips that hold them in with pliers releasing each end and carefully removing them. easy to break - kind of like window switches.
