87' 944S Timing / cam gear cover problem

I was changing my water pump, timing belt last nite and noticed that the rear cover behind the camshaft gear is broken at the mounting tabs. I took a look at the distributor cap and seen that it is barely making contact with the rotor contacts...
I took off the camshaft gear and this is what I have.. I don't think it can be fixed, I really don't know how this happens to a cover that is completely covered up. Maybe someone over tightened the 2 10mm bolts and cracked the tabs. 1 tab is completely broken off and the other one is cracked and bent upward. It has been this way for a long time, it almost looks like it has started to corrode away. There is no way that I can "just" put it back on without some modifing the tabs and cover to fit again.
I checked Pelican parts, Zims and a few other places on the net and it is NLA at all the sites.
It is #28 on the attached photo from pelican parts.

Does anyone know if I can "fix" it by getting it welded and if someone has one for sale??

Thank you in advance for any help.....

can you drill it out from behind and stick a bolt through and use a nut on the front?

I am in the process of finding a suitable replacement, but I won't overlook the cheaper fix.
I thought of cutting off the tabs and finding a "spacer" that is the same length as the broken tabs. Drill it out and nut and bolt it up. I have sometime to look since I have any extra car to use while I work on the 944.

Finally got around to writing an update..
I purchased a used cover from a local guy that just happened to have it "laying" around. $30 for both sides of the cover.
While I was down for a while I took off the valve cover and had it Powder Coated Silver and painted that used timing gear cover.

I also changed the Cam belt, balance shaft belt and water pump. And since I am never happy with stock I also "made" a custom 3" cold air intake for my S.

pics to follow
