Clicking Sound when moving 944 NA

My sons '84 944 NA has suddenly developed a "clicking" sound when in gear and moving. This just suddenly developed the other day, nothing was hit, run over, etc. this clicking sound just started. It seems to be coming from somewhere midship and only when in gear???

Any ideas?

Check your CV joints, they most likely need cleaning/regreasing.

I was sort of afraid someone was going to suggest that. I have the new boots on the shelf so I'll start there.

Thanks

If it's any consolation I was going to suggest a fractured race on the outer rear wheel bearing.

FYI 2 bad CV joints on the passenger side. Looks like they have never been serviced in 57,000 miles. Pays to do the preventitive maitn, I should have done them last summer as I had the kits on the shelf.
