AC low pressure line

It's getting hot in La. Took my '83 944 in yesterday to check the AC and they can't get to the low pressure side. I think I've seen some strings regarding this in the past but couldn't locate them.
could anyone offer any suggestions about getting to this connector? They say it's hidden behind the alternator bracket.
thanks
daw

It on the compressor, it's a pain in the wazoo to get at, charge all that. You have loosen the belt to swing the compressor, hook up the hose, swing it back, charge it, swing is back, unhook hose, swing it back, tension the belt. Others have created nifty tool, I got a 1 inch shorter belt and a 90 degree fitting. Now charging only takes a second where before it was a 2 beer job. Seriously, it might take an hour for them to charge and be done.

yes, its a pita, to get to it. the nipple points straight towards the alternator bracket. the smaller belt idea is a good idea, as long as you can figure out how short it needs to be. i went a different route. when you adjust the compressor tensioning rod out fully loose, you can then attach your 90 degree fitting(only just in my case) and i took the long top bolt out of the alternator, and i had made up a bracket, with a slot in it for adjustment. i attached the bracket at this point, and re-installed the bolt. at the end of the bracket, i welded on a 3" roller bearing. all i had to do was push down on the bracket, which tightened up the belt, driving the compressor, nip it up, and away you go! not 2 beers, but maybe 4, but for getting the job done, and entertainment at the same time, priceless.
bob.
