seeking info on ROW 924 turbo CGT bodied

hello everyone,
I am restoring an odd ball that I discovered a couple of months ago. It is a 1979eurospec 924 turbo or as we used to call them grey market. anyway, this odd ball is fully decked out with factory carrera gt body parts. we are not talking about the fiberglass stuff you buy from AIR in California...jennie factory parts...flexy urethane rear flares, neat CGT rubber bumperettes and side markers on the fenders, plus all the correct fender welting. anyway, I tried getting some info from the factory in Germany on this car and they gave me a whole story that due to legal reasons they can not disclose info on where cars were delivered etc. they suggested I contact north america for a certificate of auth but it seems those are only available on US spec cars. I even checked with EPA to see if they had records and they said that they don't keep anything older than 10 years. Anyone have any ideas on how I could get more info on my car? Its definately an odd ball and it is not some crude conversion (I've seen these). also it is a very early 924 turbo number 99.
thanks,
Paul

you can get a cert. of auth. from Europe, but there might be a language barrier.

thanks guys. I tried carfax but the vin doesn't work in their system. I am going to see what I can dig up from DMV and I am going to a certificate of auth. My biggest question about the car is who in Germany did the modifications? was it a dealer? the factory? the modifications to the quarter panels for the rear flares are real neat and factory like. I'll get some pictures up shortly. she's not real pretty right now. gonna need paint and some body work but will be a real looker when she's done. color is diamond silver metallic with herringbone cloth interior. would love to do the interior in pasha checkered flag if I could only find the fabric!

May want to post up on 924Board.Org . Much more experience with the 924 and 931 platform there. Who knows, someone may even know the car.

Just curious, is it a car in a private collection or something in the back of a shop somewhere?

Also is there anything else done to the car other than the bodywork, top mount intercooler?

thanks Dan. dropped that bracket over to my dad on saturday and he got working on the project monday. keep you posted.

techno Duck- Hey, your in Metro NY too. I've been a member since 1985. not terribly active though. anyway, the car was a junkyard dog. it was saved from the junkyard by a college kid who didnt do anything to it. I found it on craigslist and from the pictures I knew the car was something "different" so I bought it sight unseen. I did get in touch with the guy who had it before him and apparently the car was taken from him by his bank. He said that he bought it off ebay a couple of years ago from a guy in New York and had no info either but said it was sold as a CGT which it clearly isn't based on the VIN and year and ran well. anyway, it doesn't run yet (soon though) the charge tube was not on the car but was in the trunk so not sure if it ever had an intercooler, also all the brake calipers were not on the car and the fuchs rims were gone. I have just about everything I need now to put it back together and have thus far got the brake system back together with calipers from a donor 944.

regards,
Paul
