No spark #2&3
1983 944 5 speed, 10K miles. Drove car on nice sunny day a few weeks ago. Drove into garage and parked car.
Another nice sunny day, I went to drive the car again. Started car, ran very rough. Checked plugs and wires, no spark on #2 & #3. #1 & 4 spark. Anyone have any ideas?? TIA Craig |
Bad distributor cap or bad ignition wires on 2 and 3.
|
Okay, tonight I swapped out the plug wires, and the ECU. No change.

check/swap/replace the dist cap
|
Not many other places to go but the cap.

Purchase a new distributor cap and rotor from our sponsor, Pelican Parts.
Since you swapped out the plug wires and it made no difference, that is my best guess at this time, with this information. Good luck and let us know how else we can help.SmileWavy |
I am planning to replace the cap, but I am not looking forward to replacing the rotor, knowing what is involved.
Craig |
It won't be the rotor, but you should have one on hand anyway.
|
The cap was a bigger problem than the rotor for me. If you are going to replace them then the possibility of destroying the old parts should not be major. On mine the rotor had two threaded holes in the shaft and two holes in the rotor. It was done as part of timing belt, water pump, front seals, etc. and I put the rotor on 180 degrees off. Cost me a lot of time and heart ache.

New cap, no change, still no spark on 2 and 3.
Anyone care to offer a suggestion. I am stumped. CCL |
May be you had a bad rotor instead of distributor cap.
It is best to replace both to move on to something that is causing the problem. |
Okay, new plugs, wires, cap and now new rotor. Still no spark on #2 & 3.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????? |
sorry if im stealing your thread, i have the same issuse, but no spark on any.. i see you replaced the ECU, where is this located?
|
It is located under the dash, drivers side right above your knees.

Take the cap out and check the metal terminal if it has slight burn or scoring on
#2 and #3 and compare to #1 and #4. The dust cover should be in placed. Remember, only Bosch cap and rotor will do. May be you could show some pictures. |
No spark #2 & #3
Properly installed, brand new BOSCH rotor and cap. No scoring or burning evident
on any of the posts inside the cap. Not sure what pictures would show?? CCL |
When checking the spark plugs, how is the conditons of all plugs? After cap
and rotor installed, did you start the car and let it run ? If you did, the cap or rotor should have tiny scoring or brown coloring. Find out if you have a good voltage coming out from the coil. Do you have an OEM ignition coil or after market? Mine is 1983 944 also. |
Problem was found to be a crank sensor. It was the run sensor, even though the car would start.
Thanks to all who took the time to reply. |
