Funny clutch business

So one day, i topped off the fluid in my brake reservoir, and on the following drive, noticed my clutch pedal hasd lost all resistance on the top half of the down stroke, and wasnt returning to the full height. the clutch still disengeged, but the action was far lower in the pedal travel. and now im afraid the point of engagement is getting too close to the firewall, im having trouble finding first sometimes and reverse is tricky too. now ive checked all the lines and clutch cylindres master and slave, but there are no leaks. ive blead th e clutch lines as well. is this as simple as a new pressure plate? or perhaps a new slave cylinder? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why did you add the fluid? Were you seeing a drop? It should be a closed system as you know. Did you put in the right fluid? Silly questions, but just covering the basics. Is the engagement point slowly moving towards the firewall or has it stopped migrating? If you're not seeing liquid, check to make sure the adjustment bar behind the pedal is secure to the master cylinder. As for the pressure plate symptoms, someone else can better answer that one.

I just had the problem where the firewall pushed out where the clutch master cylinder attached to it. It gave me basically the same problem as you have. I kept extending my rod though and eventually my rod was all the way out and I still was getting about 2 inches of travel before i got resistence. you might check that. it wasnt initially very clear because of the firewall insulation.

The firewall was exactly it. What did you do to fix that problem? I may have to weld mine up. Thank you!

I also had this problem on my 73 944. I think welding this thin metal would be very difficult.
See my post of 3-10-09 with reply from nkgosselin. I was able to fix the problem with a bracket similar to Kevin's.
I also used Loctite Weld Bonding Compound to seal cracks in the bulkhead.
