944 2.7 idle hunting
Hi all, I have noticed over the last few months, when cruising on a freeway (60mph) and I start to slow down, the idle begins to hunt up and down as the revs come down. It's a 3 speed auto, does anyone have any ideas as to why this happens. Oh, it also idles high sometimes, particularly when its cold. One set of lights it's idling a bit higher than the next, then down again. I've checked for air leaks and can't find any, I just wonder if these have an idle motor that maybe sticking?

I would guess that you were right and it has a vacuum leak somewhere. Most of the time it's under the intake manifold and really hard to spot. It does also have a idle control valve which is under the intake as well. Sometimes cleaning it will help also.
