Hello There:
I have the Clifford alarm system in my 1987 944n/a, so I am not sure if this will be applicable to your application. However, basically the alarm system is armed via a switch located in the driver's side door, behind the latch. When armed, via key, the alarm module which is located near the ECU/DME brain under the passenger side floor board, will sense any intrusion. For example, my car has a switch located in the engine compartment, driver's side, near the fuse box on the frame. If the engine hood is opened, the switch is open and circuit then is hot, the alarm module cuts power to the ignition switch via the DME relay, which also cuts power to the fuel pump and sends power to an alarm horn which is very loud! The car is then in a mode where it will NOT start, until of course the switch is de-activated via the key. Same process if someone tries to open a door or the hatch in the rear. That is the basic outline of how the system protects your vehicle. Hope this helps. Do you have access to the Porsche Factory workshop/maintenance manuals? If so, there are several explicit electrical diagrams showing the route each switch/wiring takes through out the vehicle. Pretty cool how it was designed originally. www.clarks-garage.com has a procedure for by-pass if needed.

Check these links, I just installed a remote start on my car about 2 months ago, works well, just have to remember to leave the car in neutral.
I didn't know the factory alarm was a clifford?? http://64.85.6.118/diagrams/diagrams.asp

my alarm had a larger blue colored box than that of the clarksgarage example, not sure if that makes a difference. theres also no key turn off switch. though in searching for a switch i found why my car was always eating batteries lol, the lines connecting the parking brake switch were just hanging free touching the seat rails

I believe all alarm equipped models had the external keys through about 1986, so what you have could likely be a completely aftermarket alarm, can you post a picture with part number? Did you look on Clifford's website?
