Slow Acceleration

Recently I changed out the water pump on my 1986 and I also changed the distro cap and rotor. I added RESTORE for 4 cyl engines and injector cleaner along with a higher octane gas the last time I filled up. Why am I still getting slow acceleration, don't get me wrong once it gets up to speed it goes like a bat out of hell but it is getting there that takes the time. Any suggestions?

when you reset timing, did you set it at a tooth and a half past the timing mark, or right on the mark?
when i redid the belts on my 88, i set it at the timing mark and it ran like that, till you got up to about 3000rpms.

Acceleration Problem

I set it right at the mark since the Haynes manual said to do that...but I adjusted the throttle cable and it is better than it was. I may end up replacing the throttle cable later. Right now the way I have it it hits about 3000 rpm and goes like a bat outta hell, ok a 23 year old bat, but still better than it was.

Is this something that you noticed has changed from a previous state, or has it just always seemed slow? These motors, especially with the wimpy low rpm ignition advance of the stock maps, don't have a whole lot below 2500 rpms and just don't start cranking any serious power until about 4000 rpms. A good aftermarket chip will liven up the low end considerably. The other thing that could do that is a lean condition. Check that the FQS in the DME unit is in the normal position (fully counter clockwise), check for vacuum leaks, check the AFM resistor track ( http://www.the944.com/afm.htm ), check for low fuel pressure, check that the WOT switch is working.

Just what I was going to ask.

This is typical of the car. Just enjoy the car on the road and in the hills.
