I'm sure for most of you this will be an easy question.
Can someone please tell me what issues I may encounter if I try to swap an 83 motor into an 86 car. No turbo or anything fancy, just early motor into a late car. I know the fuse location and ecu are different but will a late wire harness and under the hood accessories mate up? I have a 86 944 with no motor, ecu or exhaust but has tranny and power steering. I can get a 83 parts car with motor, ecu and exhaust for next to nothing. Will this work? Thanks. |

It all should go together. There's no ISV on the early cars so you'll have an extra unused connector from your late harness. You may not have a power steering pump on the donor as it was optional on the 83s.
Goood luck.

Is it true the early/late temp sensors differ?

Yes, they are different. The early car has a 1 wire temperature sender under the intake manifold as opposed to a 2 wire setup. That changed in 85.5 along with a few other things.

The fuel line hookup might be different, you might need to transfer the fuel rail form the old engine like I had to
