Need "fix" for floor mat making gas pedal stick down.

I'm REALLY getting tired of the look that people give me when my gas pedal gets stuck down due to the floor mat sliding forward in my 951, and I have to reach down to pull it back away from it, to be able to slow down. It's almost like I can read their minds that they are thinking "what the hell does that guy think he is doing?" Little do they know that it isn't what I'm doing, but what my floor mat is doing. But, like it or not (it is not), judging by the looks on their faces, I am the one who has to "take the blame".

The mat has 2 straps with plastic clips on it on the underside that pretty much seem to line up with the seat rails. But the problem is, I cannot find any place where the clips would mate to on the floor or the seat rails. Is there supposed to be anything there? What else can I do to stop this from continuing to happen?

First off do everyone a favor and just take floor mat out before you seriously injure yourself or someone else.

I have a set of Lloyds mats with the clips on the underside. There is another piece that slips inbetween the tracks of the sliders that has the other end of the connector on it.

Yea, I guess that wouldn't be such a bad idea. This whole situation has been kinda nagging at me, ever since hearing about the guy who got the loaner car from the lexus dealer and complained to the secretary about the floor mat making the accelerator stick. Two days later he killed a pedestrian. I smell sewage, big time! It's times like these when you hope that your insurance coverage is high enough. I now have 300K, but how do you judge if that is enough? I am now considering upping it to a mil, just to be on the safe side.

I have a set of mats that say "Porsche" on them, so I assume that is who made them. Any idea where I could find "the other piece" that I need to secure them?

It sounds like you may already have after market mats. Pelican has Lloyd's mats, which you can have embroidered with "Porsche" and this is a quote from that page:

I have the original mats in my car and the backing is a thin layer of foam rubber with lines of "PORSCHE" within it. (Have a picture in the camera) Sadly this is crumbling to dust but there is no clip/hook on the rear edge of the mats. I had to take my drivers side mat out because having the seat where I need it being short was pushing the mat onto the gas pedal as well. I've been debating a new set suspecting I'd still have the same issue as the bottom of the seat seems to be what was pushing the mat forward, perhaps necessitating cutting the mat short.

On insurance, your coverage may also need to be increased depending upon your profession and public/attorney perception of your earning capacity. I received this advice upon finishing training as well.

It should be fairly simple to make something to attach the floor mats to the seat rail. If nothing else you could have two grommets put into the mat and a "D" ring on the seat rail with a short nylon strap with velcro to hold them in place.

Yup, velcro would definitely do it. As for insurance, mebbe 1 million in liability would be better... You just never know.

My Lloyd mats came with some velcro strips on the back to hold it down but they don't work well. They eventually slide their way forward. I don't have the gas pedal issue, but the back of my clutch pedal will sometimes snag on the mat and pull the mat up. That mat isn't going to stop the spring from kicking the clutch back, but it's annoying to feel it snagging like that. I make sure to pull them back down before starting the car.

or get some paracord or something similar and tie it to the clips and around the base of the seat. wouldn't look bad because you wouldn't be able to see it, and very cheap or free depending on if you have something like at your place.

the ones i have in the blue 968 have a spring wire on the plastic clip - you compress the 2 ears of the wire and slip them into a hole in the seat track\

the ones i have in the white 968 are similar, but have a pin that slips into the carpet

They have these clips called "Mat-Loc". They have a locking clip which grabs the mat, and then a hook that hooks your factory carpet and holds it in place.

they are "ok", but tend to move a bit occasionally, especially if the seat is lowered all the way, or is pushed forward all the way

Go buy a pair of heavy duty suspenders cut off 4 ends and attach to the bolts holding the seat down. Then simply clip to mat.

I have a set of Lloyd's mats from about 12 years ago. I have to say they are the worst-fitting floor mats I've ever bought for a vehicle. They have a funky flap that goes over the dead pedal that won't stay put and like the original poster, I constantly have to pull it back. Fortunately, it doesn't ever actually catch or depress the gas pedal...it's just annoying. The problem is that at the back of the mats mine don't have the right reliefs for the seat rails, so they can never quite be pulled back far enough.

I looked at the Lloyds mats they sell now and the pattern decidedly different. No floppy dead pedal cover and proper cutouts for the seat rails.

yup - that's the kind i have in the blue car - the part that snaps into the plastic snaps has a wire clip on the end that hooks into the seat track

Anyone know where I can find a pair of those (maybe 2 pair, if the PS is also set up the same way). Otherwise, I will probably just pin them into the carpet using drapery pins.
